i've always used shareaza...but i'm wondering if that might have something to do with my slow downloads. i looked in the thread that talks about slow downloads and i don't seem to fall into any of those categories...my internet connection is very capable of really fast speeds...

what are your thoughts? is azureus better for bittorrent files than shareaza?

YES. Get ABC or Azureus, not an old-version-BitTorrent support like you get with Shareaza. Always go with a client that was made for the network you are downloading from. Shareza should be used for G2 and G2 ONLY. >_<

Let me tell you why Shareaza is slower than ABC or Azureus. Shareaza is not just downloading Bit Torrent files, it is also there to respond to querries from eDonkey, eMule, Gnutella1, and Gnutella2. If you just want to do bit torrent, turn off the other networks. Go to TOOLS>SHAREAZA SETTINGS>NETWORKS and disable everything but bit torrent. I can normally max out my cable connection. For exanple you could download a movie, say Polar Express in 4 hours. If your firewall is correctly configured and everything else is right (DO NOT USE ZONE ALARM 5 WITH BT, problems) you can download as fast as with ABC. I seed with ABC, but download with Shareaza.

4 hours? PFFT! (also...don't actually say the movie's title, I say) When I max my connection on BT and I'm downloading a 700 MB file, I sit down for a nice cuppa Drawn Together and it's done.

Uh...rebirth...having a lot of Shareaza experience, I'd say it's best used for G2 and G1 :P

Anyway, no, don't use Shareaza for BitTorrent. I'm constantly changing between torrent clients - Azureus (for some totally unknown reason) randomly stopped transferring anything, ABC and G3 (my favourite) need a port for each torrent and BitSpirit has an irritatingly fully-featured interface.

My suggestion is don't use Shareza or Azureus . BitComet is by far the best Bit Torrent client I have seen and I have used it for some time . I have tried TorrentTopia, Azureus, BitSpirit ,
ABC Torrent ,BitTornado and Bit Comet beats them all, hands down. :fire

Here is what I wrote about slow speeds on one of the many threads that are popping up on this subject.

The one reason you want to throttle your upload speed is so that transfer checking will not interfere with your downloads. If your upload is saturated the files you are downloading will have trouble checking and the download will slow way down. This is why some people complain about their speeds. You gotta throttle that shit if you want to max out your download speed. No question.

I really like to use Azureus and its easy to throttle your upload with it. I switched from Bittornado (a great program in itself) mainly because its just easier to create torrents to upload with Azureus and it offers many other features that are great. I don't really like Shareza but that just my opinion.
