Microsoft's new Windows Media Player 9 Series software does not have an uninstall feature on certain operating systems.

XP or ME users will have to perform a procedure called a "system restore". Unfortunately this will remove all software installed since Media Player 9.
Sceptics might say they are ignoring user's preferences now, so they can secure more sales for operating systems in the future; as users become hooked on certain OS features - like Media Player 9

Well, I downloaded it but havent installed it, so its going straight to the recycling bin. I'm going to keep well away from wmp9, 6.4 works well enough for me. Thanks for the info Will.

Only for XP and ME remember. And I've seen your desktop, and is that Win 98? Or ME? I've never used ME. You'll be able to uninstall it if you have these OSes.

there hasn't been an uninstall for ANY windows media player since win 95, there is one in xp sp1/2k sp3, but it only "hides" the components, not actually remove them

I use wmp8. I use it to burn my audo cd's. I'm guessing sooner or later i'll have to get a "real" program to do that :) I'll probably get the final version of wmp9 but not the beta.

Linux is a good operating system, but I like my computer games.

Hello, everyone. Here we go:
Divx Pro 5.0.2 Bundle (with AC3 Codec)
Nimo Codec Pack Build 8
(Actually, Nimo Lite Pack is better because of the WMP version)
Then, turn down ALL Hardware acceleration in the WMP.
There you have it.
However... as for getting rid of it, stop trying. You can't. Bill Gates is the Lord of Hellfire.

Do anyone harbour a sneaky suspicion that Zeropiad got a bung ($) for promoting WMP9 the way they did? Wasn't it sticky in the new section for a while. MS have used Astroturfing in the past.

That's horrible about WMP9. I decided that I'd never use any WMP other than 6.4 after the hell I went through uninstalling WMP7. That thing is so slow that it's practically worthless, to me anyways. It's pretty wicked of them to make it so hard to get rid of their software. Like with IE, I've spent hours trying to get rid of it, only to fail miserably. The most I've been able to do is get the icon off my desktop.

Go into safe mode and delete their executables--iexplore.exe, messenger.exe, mediaplayer.exe etc
they can't phone home if they can't start up

Is that dot to lower left of that MP9 logo above doing anyone else's head in? I keep thinking it's a bit of muck.

Is it not part of microsoft lawsuit that they has to allow pplz to get rid of IE and WMP if they wanting to do this, so i ask how does you get rid of wmp9, can you just delete folder it is in and this will not affect rest of system not that would matter as it crashes enough as it is mind you or will Bill Gates kick my door down and ask why i removed/deleted his precious player.
Edit: oh yah also the dot is artistic touch they paid millions to have it put in just right place.

I agree with TipYourBartender, not my choice of words, but why use Windows Media Player, when you could use Winamp. It sounds better, supports shoutcast and a ton of media file types, movies, has plugin support, cool visualization, and awesome skins... Windows Media Player dims in comparison...

Winamp belongs to Nullsoft who belong to AOL Time Warner., don't they? Bill doesn't want it, as he's toying with them.

He wouldn't want free software anyway. He loves people paying $100 for a 50c CD. Shit, if the games don't improve I'm going to get Linux. Office-a-like - free, music player -free, webbrowser -free, movie player -free, programming apps -free!

I was thinking about Linux for my next system too. I'm getting really fed up with Micro$oft trying to force inferior, expensive bull on everyone with a computer.
