I am using winmx3.3. What I need to understand is how all this works.
When I surch for something it may comeback with an item that has 5 users.
1.) Under speed it says 5+0..What does that mean?
2.) Under status server it says ..2+2 available users. Or sometimes it may say 0+1 in different colors. What do these mean?
3.) It may say 20 in queue..are these people waiting? It I just leave it alone will it keep trying after all 20 have left?
Many things I do not understand which I know is frustrating me.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Yes, it is daunting isn't it?
1. 5+0 means 5 Users have have braodband and 0 have dial up.
5 will be green, the 0 will be red
2. 0+1 means 0 broadband users have slot(s) available and 1 dial up user has a slot (s) open.
0 will be green, 1 will be red.
A slot is an available download, so a user with 3 slots will allow three different to connections.
3. If you enter a queue, because the user has no available slots, then you will move up the queue as each download finishes. It will go..19, 18, 17, 16 etc until your download starts.

Thanks Will. That has helped quite a bit.
Now for a little further info..if you don't mind....
On the transfer side I have a file downloaded about 10% of the file and stopped.
Under users it says: 15m
Under AFS it says: 10
There is an AEQ but there is nothing there..does that mean something?
Need to add.
I have another file that downloaded a bit then stopped. Here are its numbers and things.
User AFS AEQ Status K/S
5 users 25m 10 Remotely queued 42 44 137
All of this is in blue.
I feel like I am learning a new language.
Thanks

I think you have a file or two waiting
Downloads stop for 2 reasons,
1. The download is finished. This when they turn blue. Locate your download folder, and the file will be ready to enjoy.
Status will say "Download complete"
2. You run out of sources from people while downloading. They switch off for example. The file will turn red. Try right clicking and select "Find more sources now".
It may also be purple, purple means you are in a queue. Leave and your download will start. Status will say "Remotely queued 10" or similar.
An explaination of AFS AEQ -
AFS (Auto Find Sources) Tells WinMx to try and locate more souces for download every x minutes. x is the number you see in this column. Leave at 10 and your download should finish quicker.
AEQ (Auto Enter Queue) : While finding sources using above AFS, this tells WinMX what queue length you are willing to enter - should the user not have open slots when WinMx seeks them out. E.g. set to 10 and Winmx will enter queues with 10 queued up or less, but won't put you in the queue if there is 13 in the queue.

Have you never heard of Google?

Hmmm..Google..huh.
Well I went to my favorite search engine and typed that in and it gave me my favorite search engine. It never said anything about winmx or any of the parts that I was asking about.
I will try it again later :-)
Thanks Will...I Will ask no more questions

Sorry, I don't feel so good. I didn't get enough sleep last night.
I appreciate help too.
It's this sites fault : Any decent P2P site should have a user guide section. A good one too. This site is basically a forum section, a news section, and a bunch of links section, it doesn't really seem to have any content of it's own.

Is that the way Austin would have reacted?
Just kidden..I understand the frustration. I have read through some of the posts here and can see why you may be frustrated.
I agree that winmx could be a little easier to use but I guess it is what it is. I'm just glad there are still some p2ps left. Who knows what will be a year from now.
Thanks for you help
