I think I'd like one, but I'm wondering pros/cons of modding, etc... Any tips? I think I may go with an Xecuter 3, but we'll see.

My Roomies got one...not sure which specific chip, but it is seriously one of the coolest things ever. Like forty games all at your fingertips. The only problem is he got a chip that you can't turn off, so no xbox live. I would definitely recomend getting one of the chips that'll let you use xbox live

Yeah, the X3 lets you turn it off, there's some sweet features on it. Any recommended sellers? I don't want to end up with a clone chip since this is such a huge investment.

I liked the X.BIT because DMS Tech is an amazing company. Then again, with the advent of X3, I think they are really pushing forward.

I got a Magic 3.1 from www.modchip.ca , they're pretty reliable and sell the X3.

It's really cool! The aladdin live plus chip is cheap and has all the cool features (if you can solder well). It's a region free dvd, mpeg, avi player.....that can save games directly to the hardrive. It's also a cool throw-back game player...atari games, neo-geo, sega, nintendo........It's really the best all-in-one entertainment console that there is next to a computer....Heck...it is a computer.

Modding your xbox basically turns it into a computer. heck you can even run linux on it. Anyway my friend got one in the early days of the system. The only cons I can think of is 1, voids your warantee. 2 can permanently damage your system if not properly installed or if a problems arises with it. 3. You never find enough time to play all the games you have.

Ok question. I guess I was under the impression that I could disable the modchip. Well I did it, and it said "Call a tech" or something, the xbox main dashboard wouldn't show up, but it worked fine with the modchip re-enabled.

But I really wanted to play Halo 2 on xbox Live, but can't do so without disabling the modchip. Any ideas anyone?

HawkBurn,, that means you unlocked your hard drive, lock the hard drive in the chips bios and the main dash will work again

let me know if that works. Im pretty good with that system and if that doesent fix it tell me what erorr code it gives you --

I have a Xenium Ice, 160GB hard drive with about 60 games, and every singal EMU+ROMS that works on it + every APP you can run on it. you can even watch Divx movies on it

a modded xbox is the best thing you can do to a xbox as long as you do it right

Ok when I got the guy that put my modchip in (im a cunt when it comes to sodering) for me he also put in an extra 120 GB i had laying around. How would I go about locking the hdd? There's 3 switches on the external part of the modchip, 1 being enabled or disabled (i turned it to disabled and thats when it gave me the error), Protected and Unprotected (is this locked and unlocked?) and Bank 1 and Bank2 (memory I suppose)

Anything for that? and thats for your help.

Edit: I see in EvolutionX that you can select XBOX Dashboard.. and it boots into the regular xbox dash, although the modchip still shows the green power led, if I use LIVE that way will I still get banned?

I know that the aladdin live plus dual boots. Hold the power button in and it boots to evoX, tap the power button and it boots to the standard.

You should be able to boot to the standard bios once you get your hard drive locked. I think it gives you the option to lock/unlock in the evoX options.

I helped mod my friends xbox...don't have it here to check

I dont know much about the X2-- but the HD protection on-off Im pretty sure is diffrent becuase I have that option besides the locking one.

can you get into the X2 bios ? if so look for some kind of disc tools

if you cant get into the bios,, Load Evox- go to system tools, load configmagic-- you can lock the HDD in configmagic ,, but DONT CHANGE ANYTHING ELES IN CONFIGMAGIC inless you know what you are doin.

M$ locks the orignal drive so a PC cant use it unlocking makes it usable on a PC, not all upgrade drives can be locked so you may be screwd. try configmagic its you only hope if you dont have the option in you mod-chips bios

Having a modded xbox is a gift from god. It is the NICEST system to mod. I mean u can do virtually anything on it.

Thihs is what my xbox functions as, thx to the modchips.

Many game backups : wink wink, on the hard drive, which is a poor 40 gig, but i dont play too much games. So i have Xbox games + Many emulation games, different systsems, like Nintendo 64, snes, nes, sega genesis, 32x and that other sega. Even playstation 1 games play on the xbox with an emulator, at good speeds.

That was just gaming, i also have it as a multimedia box with Xbox media player, which lets me play DIVX, xvid, quicktime, real anything i throw at it, from different ways, cds, hard drive, samba shares(sharing a folder in windows through a network), and all sorts of kewl methods. Same goes for the music, and pictures. This beautiful media app also comes with a nice web radio menu that lets me listen to web radio, and the latest one comes with a nice interface to see the apple quicktime movie trailers from my own xbox!!!

Another is called dvdx2 or something like that, which lets me play regular dvds WITHOUT buying the remote control that M$ wants u to buy.

Thats not all my xbox does, i also have it as a linux server, which i use for personal reasons. SOmetimes i run test sites, run vnc to use ite as a spare box, ssh, etc. Up to your imagination. Surf the web, yakiti yak.

Have fun, Should you mod, HELL YES. its a completely different system after its been modded by a modchip or software.

You guys might want to check here (http://www.xbox-scene.com/) before you get a modchip. It seems that Xbox Live will be making more modchip checks. Just find the headline on the linked site.

The word around town (the internet) is that Halo 2 has some binar code written in that helps Live out when it comes to banning people. It seems M$ is now banning people according to their hard drive size. So basically if you upgraded your hard-drive, don't put a live ethernet cable into your 'box. As usual, you must also disable your modchip, which I have now done thanks to undying wizard. Now I just have to put the old hdd back in there.

OK medium problem and I would appreciate some help, because Undying wizard is NEvER on msn. Alright, so I took out the 120 GB hdd and put the 10 gb back in there. So I switch the modchip to "disabled mode" and then I get the error message saying to call tech support, and it gives a big 05 in the top left corner (error code which I believe means the hdd isnt locked.) So I turn the xecuter to enabled mode, and just the regular xbox dash boots. So could anyone tell me how to possibly get evox to boot up when i have the mod enabled, and the regular xbox dash to boot when disabled?

Microsoft Cracks Down on People Suspected of Making Unauthorized Modifications to Their Xboxes

SEATTLE (AP) -- In the days before Microsoft Corp. released the hotly anticipated Halo 2 video game for the Xbox game console, some gamers noticed a sudden spike in the number of people being kicked off the company's online game service. That was no coincidence.

With Halo 2 expected to entice a new batch of users to the Xbox Live online gaming community, Microsoft says it got tougher with people suspected of making unauthorized modifications to their Xboxes.

Gamers who modify Xboxes usually do so either to be able to cheat on games or use pirated copies, although some also have made changes so they can use the Xbox for other functions, from running Linux to playing music.

I'm okay with MS cutting down on people using pirated copies of their games to play online, but seriously they shouldnt care if I wanted to put Xbox Media Center on my box. If they made a version of XBMC i'd probably buy it because it makes the box functional. But they don't make their own version, they just whine about it and cut you off from xbox live.

Well screw M$.. I disabled my chip and put the original hard drive back in. And then thanks to LotD I can put a boot disc in (or just swap my hdd) and go back to modded.

XBMC is great, especially with the remote. I stream videos over the network from my computers to my xbox.

Somebody already said it, but if you upgrade your hard drive, you can get banned from Live.

Anyone who's thinking about modding: Figure out what xbox revision you have first. If you have a 1.6 you probably have to do some soldering.

you mean micro soldering . . . good luck

then you leave the note on the bottem of the board and take the X-BOX back, so that some guy in a factory sees it . . and goes "WTF?"

of course WE would NEVER do anything like that!

If I'm not mistaken, Xbconnect is a tunneling program. you run it on your PC, and set up a lan game on your xbox. The program running on your PC (xbconnect) then translates the lan game into an internet game, allowing you to play others (who aren't on your lan) without using xbox live.

Undying Wizard NHD
January 15th, 2005, 09:40 PM
XBC treaks the xbox into thinking its hooked up another xbox , and the program on the PC hooks you up to other people, it does not work for Xbox Live games , only games that have LAN options. XBC is working on a program that wont need the PC to work ( other programs have done this but not so popular) , but of course you would need a modded box to do that, both 007 hack and mod chip will work. there are other tunnel programs with diffrent servers but XBC was the first I belive.

more tunnel stuff

One of these days I'm going to have to pick me up an xbox for kicks you know what would be pretty nifty if they upgraded the current XBOX OS's like XBMC and came out with hardware to run a USB2.0 HUB allowing you to use external storage that'd be the chit talk about a machine then!

I have wanted to mod my xbox so that I can burn games to the hard drive for a long time. But I never really had any extra cash to do it, let alone know how. But now I have some extra cash and I want to buy a 120gig or 200gig hard drive to install on my xbox. Is there any place that I can send it to where they will install the hard drive along with the program I need to burn games on it??? If not, how do I do it myself & how mutch will it cost??? Will it work on the newer xbox's??? any information would be alot of help. Thanks.
