your ISP is the one providing you with the IP..
they can see exactly how much your downloading but if u want them to not know what you are downloading, u need encryption...
i think the jap project does that...
go to http://anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/index_en.html
its open source for now but its eventually going to become commercial..

I don't think I could use a German program named JAP and enjoy my P2P experience.

By download do you mean upload?
and by ISP do you mean copyright holders?

if you use proxies and the data is encrypted... that'll stop your ISP seeing what you're downloading and where you're really downloading it from.
(Although... in most circumstances... it's not the ISP you need to hide things from!)

File sharers need a program like protowall that will install in connections and make all connections via a anonymous proxies. That would work with browsers, p2p and any other connections. I havent found one so maybe someone can tell us of one?

youre right stownplayer! JAP is great for browsers, but for now you should use peerguardian

If you do go for PeerGuardian as opposed to Protowall (people have their reasons for both)...
PGLite (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/int64/pglite-040920-bin-2.zip?download) is recommended until PG2 (http://www.methlabs.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2533&page=1&pp=10) is officially released (any day now..)
(these versions provide proper driver-based blocking on all protocols and don't hog resources like v1.99x releases have done.)

@Christoph
JAP worked for me using the new version of azureus which now supports peer connections through proxies,
although it was VERY slow and couldn't properly connect to the tracker.
Including proxies in protowall/PG would be ideal.. although i don't think such a program exists...
