I posted about this maybe a month ago and nobody had a single thing to say soooo im doing it again.I recently reinstalled windows xp because a virus totally f***ked up my computer in 22 different ways. I downloaded a song and tried to play it but i couldn't hear anything.I turned up the volume on the speakers.(still no luck) then i tried to go to volume control and it said "There are no active mixer devices available." but i dont see how that is possible because it worked just fine before i reinstalled windows. Please help. having no sound is driving me CRAZY!
THANKS

I just know www.driverguide.com to be the most extensive collection of drivers on the internet. Hardly sucking ass, mind you.

Its hard to find drivers for your hardware when you dont know what you have. Make and model would be useful as cpu said. Also check windows update, sometimes they will show up there.

Go to your Control Panel > System, write down information they ask for + which version of Windows you are using, then go into Hardware > Device Manger, then right click on the Audio Controller, if the driver is installed then write down driver's maker & version!
Report back, then someone can help you if needed!

Have you tried HP's website (http://hp.com)? They usually have the drivers for the computers they make.

that big ugly tower thing should also say what model of hp you have. that or your monitor, which you are staring at. unless you're staring at your keyboard.....

Go get AIDA32 Personal (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html). It will tell you what audio drivers you need. Then go to that companies web site to get it. I recently discovered DriverGuide tool kit (shareware) and it may also be useful in diagnosing the problem or missing driver.

you are going to have to install the sound drivers. We need to know the model of your computer, is the sound card built in? is it a generic computer or a name brand.

Perhaps he just wants to see how far he can stretch our patience / compassion!
However, I find that rather unlikely. I'm assuming the obvious alternative!!!
