oh thats bad :(
1 thing i wanted to ask about WinMX. i have a download speed of around 100-150 KBps, but when i download a file from winmx then per download the speed reaches just 16 KBps...but when i have multiple downloads in progress then each download has around 15-17KBps download speed that means all downloads in toto make around 40-50 KBps...whys so? i mean why doesn't each single download work at its full speed?

for ur information am on cable net NOT having an external public IP and connected through secondary connection of WinMX as i can't accept outgoing tcp connections.

can u pls guide me how to increase my download speeds?

Thanks

there is a newer version of winMX v3.54. If you want to use quickMX, here's some links to help you.

WinMX 3.31 dl link,
http://www.jfwlite.com/winmx331.exe
Quick MX dl link,
http://www.jfwlite.com/QuickMX1.2.3.zip
There you go.

You need to go into your winmx settings and limit your upload speed. Save a few Kbs of your max upload speed. You need to do this because your downloads need some of your upstream to check file integrity. If your uploads maxed out it chokes your downloads.

QuickMX seems to have stopped working even with WinMX v3.31... It stopped working from around mid November 2004. I have tried reinstalling both. Is it some problem with my computer or the WinMX team has done something to deactivate QuickMX? Maybe it was overloading their servers...?

Quickmx does overload the network, as it kills the primary connections that spport the network, and quickmx is very buggy. You may be just now encountering a bug issue or maybe enough people have upgraded in the network to make quickmx stop functioning. When enough people stop using this app the network will be much better for others.

Ya know, it's amazing to see that people are coming out to denounce a piece of software, that basically hacks another for the betterment of the individual, but to the detriment of the community.

That said.......I miss the damned thing.

Yes, I know. Go ahead and shine up your pointing fingers to stick at me, but it was nice for awhile to see all those yellow "finding sources" next to my dl's.....it was liberating...like I was unshackled......I had to put a shirt on.

I may not be so tutored in how the network works, but after so many complaints that QuickMX creates a lag, I basically take it as fact that it does. However, why can't Frontcode implement some other way to accomplish the same task? I know from experience, that no matter what the version is, you have better luck resubmitting a search and manually clicking on the new sources, than to leave it to the client to do it.

QuickMX may have exploited something Frontcode didn't know about, and taken it too far, but I think it's pretty clear from the sheer amount of people that used the addon, that Frontcode was too stingy in this particular area.

On another note, I am still amazed that, firstly, Frontcode hasn't changed the timeout options so that one can surpass the 300 second barrier (in uploads OR downloads), and secondly, that no one has figured out a way to hack for that particular option.

Yes, it may be wrong, but it seems so obvious as THE hack one would want for WinMX, that I'm surprised it isn't out there....not saying I'd use it, mind you. :;)

and before anyone gets up in arms over it, and says "it wouldn't change the download, if their client has a timeout set", you should know that I'd have no problem with that. If someone wants to limit your dl from them, then that's great, but my client should not stand in the way, if the other party wishes to extend their upload to me in the same fashion.

That, more than ANY other feature, even the find sources limitation, is the one that bugs me most.

I still love WinMX more than any other P2P client/network I've ever used, though...

I'm sticking with her, through thick and thin.....even if she won't give me the time of day. :upside

What would really help WinMX is an app that would make it jump to a different primary after searhing cycles. If it would just jump around you could access the whole network. I have to do it myself now every once in awhile and thats how I get great perfomance out of WinMx. Just a little well known secret! lol

QuickMx was bad as it killed the primarys. If you've ever run a primary connection and got nailed by someone using this app, you would know what happens. When the primary drops, everyone connected loses their que spot.

wish I knew how to do this myself or better yet, I wish Method would make one!

I think that secret leaked a long time ago. :)
