Paralyzed actor was advocate for spinal cord research
BEDFORD, New York (AP) -- Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.
Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs, told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.
Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.
"On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband," Dana Reeve, Christopher's wife, said in a statement. "I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."

Poor guy, but at least he is not suffering anymore. Its kinda weird that Kerry mentioned him recovering in his pitch during the thursday's debate regarding stem cell research.

You call yourself a Lois Lane,
and you're in pain,
and I'm insane
You don't want my help,
you don't need my help
I watch you fall down from the sky,
but i wont cry,
I'll just sigh
Who is gonna save you
Yeah I've heard the talk
Superman can't walk
Who is gonna save you,
when your Superman can't walk
I saw him just the other day,
in physical therapy
Sitting in a wheelchair,
you know I had to stare
And all your friends they think I'm sick,
they think that I'm insensitive
They don't like the fun I'm poking,
don't they know I'm only joking
Yeah I've heard the talk
Superman can't walk
Who is gonna save you,
when your Superman can't walk ...

NEWARK, N.J. - A company making a film directed by Christopher Reeve is vowing the animated feature about the New York Yankees will hit theaters in 2006.
The movie, tentatively titled "Yankee Irving," can move forward without Reeve because he had put in enough work over the last 18 months, IDT officials told The Star-Ledger of Newark for Tuesday's newspapers.
"The bulk of what he was doing as a director is fairly complete," Stephen Brown, chief financial officer of IDT.

... man, I Iose all hope whenever I stub my toe or get rained on... this guy was a real trooper. A fighter until the end. He spent a long time trying to not be type cast as Superman, when in the end that's exactly who and what he was. An awesome actor, and an awesome man.

I wish they would have used Kevin Smiths script for the the movie. He actually is a fairly good comic book writter.
