I'm with the owners on this one. I've heard some people try to argue that the owners let the salaries get this far out of hand and that's it, there's nothing they can do about it now. BS. Did they screw up letting it get this bad?. Yes, but that also means they have the right to draw the line and say that's it. You can't have about a dozen teams losing very large amounts of money, a handful of them on the brink of bankruptcy and be putting almost 3/4 of your profits back into player salaries. Of the other 3 major sports I believe 61% is the highest amount going back into salaries and the other 3 have huge TV contracts that the NHL doesn't. Drastic changes are needed. One of the bigger sports networks here in Canada TSN came up with their own solution. You can read about it here http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=100897. It heavily favours the owners. The NHLPA hates it. For some reason the owners said they don't like it either. I think it's a step in the right direction to bringing salaries way down.
