hi,
in the last couple of days the bpi have started sueing peeps in the uk.only 28 so far.
what do you guys do to keep safe/anonymous on the net?
what clients do you use?
also, a bit of a law question....
how does the bpi actually find me.i mean they get my ip but then they have to go to my isp to actualy find out who i am right?
so the isps are selling out on their core users and grassing them up to the bpi?

Yes.

Not really, the courts are ordering them to give up the names. Every customer that pays his bills is valuable to ISPs, but they have no choice.

The BPI are currently after big time uploaders. Even using kazaa lite you will be fine. The BPI are checking how many files are being shared. They wont put a number on it, only saying "driving at 100 is worse than 80". Kazaa lite doesn't respond to general queries, only specific searches. The BPI may be able to initially find you by doing a search for say "britney spears, " but they cant then check what else you have by doing "search more from this user". You will just be reported as a leech. To make sure you are driving at 100 and not 71, it will take them forever, as the would have to guess what else you might have hundreds of times to build up a list.
When questioned about this, the BPI simply said, "you can't hide." Not worth going into technical details with the press guy!
If you dont want to take that risk, simple move away from the gnutella, fasttrack (usually kazaa, but also Grokster) and OpenNap networks. Ares is a good replacement for music. Edonkey for everythng else. BitTorrent is also safe as "that is mostly for large files" (or something to that effect).
To the educated file sharer, this news doesn't mean much personally. So hang around and keep yourself up to date. If only more users were like you.
