I am a independent musician who is seeking some exposure via P2P and I need to know is there a way for me to put my own music on the P2P? If so, could anybody tell me how its done. I already have the Mp3s made, but when it comes down to uploading or anything like that I don't know how to do that. I was on the Mp3.com site years ago, but I really dont know the 1st thing about Filesharing / P2P. Could someone please give me some guidance?

There was once a chick who was seeking porn exposure. Use big networks, kazaa is a good way to get exposed. Any big network i suggest.

Well, you can download pretty much any filesharing tool, put your music into the shared folder, and start sharing it with the world. The problem with the filesharing approach is exposure. If people don't know you and your music, it is unlikely they will find your stuff and download from you. I think MP3.com was awesome for artists like yourself. Back in those days I would spend hours browsing through the site and listening to tons of music, then downloading what I liked. If I were you, I would put my music on sites like IUMA (http://www.iuma.com/) as well as create my own. If you have the budget, record a CD (which isn't all that expensive these days), and sell it through places like CDBaby (http://www.cdbaby.com/). My two cents.

The majors have the music business owned when it comes to commercial distribution of music.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. If you can, put a whole album 40 to 60 minutes of material online. People who like it, will want to check out your website. If they are on your website give them a reason to come back, meaning more music online or information about your next project.
2. Find independent radio shows that will promote your material and play it. This also includes college radio stations. College radio still plays just about anything, and worth sending a demo cd, cover letter.
Radio was all about getting your song heard (airplay), and if listeners like it, then you can use the leverage airplay gives you to build what you are really selling, your next cd. If your lucky, your existing works create a long term relationship with a small number of paying fans, or gives you a recording contract, or exposure that could lead to better promotional or business opportunities.
3. Put in the title of the song you put on a p2p network MYTITLE - MY NAME- sounds like - Artist or Genere -
4. If you don't make any money, but have fun, your ahead of the game.
5. If you need to use your talent to create an income for yourself, play events or cut jingles if your good at songwriting.
6. Promote, promote, promote... My suggestion is to use Bittorrent and suprnova, emule, kazza/fasttrack and put your songs on the web, in mp3 format.
7. Use your website to promote your work, and try to add new content to your website at least once a month.
8. As for uploading an mp3, if you have a hosted web account you can upload the file and link to it from an html page. Upload the mp3 to your webserver, then add to any html page the link to the file.
<a href="<A href="http://www.myserver.com/path/myfilename.mp3">My title here </a">http://www.myserver.com/radio/myfilename.mp3">My title here </a>
For example:
<a href="http://www.allfloridanews.com/radio/National P2P Radio Show September 2003.mp3">National P2P Radio Show September 2003.mp3</a>
9. I think there will not be much of a market for music in the future. High quality, low cost CD's can still make money if you find the right genre or market. It is very questionable how long the cd money making machine will last.
Good luck!
