Ok, Now THAT'S annoying... (Divx Sizes)

I just finished downloading a Divx -
file size = 702.90 Mb
Total Space on blank CD-R = 702.00 Mb
Do the math.

Any way to reduce file size by a smidge?
Do people do this on purpose to piss others off?

why would you burn divx to cd. Unless you have a dvd player that supports it. Otherwise there are several programs for cutting pieces off video. Easy Video Splitter is one that comes to mind

i hate to overburn, and i got a solution...
use virtualdub to reduce the bitrate of the audio, lets say from 128 to 112, and let the video remain the same,

or get rid of the last bit of casting and evrything, by cutting the video file

rar it, it will take off enough to fit it on to disc. RAR an already compressed video file doesn't take much of of the file size, but somtimes a 10 or 20 megs is enough to decide whether or not it will fit on a blank cd

No no no... do not re-encode it.

Load the DivX into VirtualDub, set the audio and video to "direct stream copy", and set the markers to start at the beginning and crop off about 30 seconds of the final credits.

Your movie will now be reduced just enough to burn onto CD.

If you can find it, the program Ashampoo Shrink & Burn can work miracles. It'll re-encode the divx file to the size you give it (i.e. 700MB). It'll adjust everything to get the file as close to that size. In cases like yours, you won't notice any difference in quality either. (if you're shrinking a 2 GB file to 700MB, you'd probably notice a difference though!)
