I would get a wireless router. Linksys is probably the most reliable even though I use a USRobotics router. You are also better off to get the same brand network card. Make sure you get a 802.11g router and not an 802.11b. It's a speed thing. This is a good site for setting up your router for file shareing as well as other things. http://www.portforward.com/
I have Comcast Cable also, and they are notorious for working with the RIAA so be very careful. I use Protowall and Sygate Personal Firewall. I have my router firewall turned off. The Sygate software firewall was just sooo much easier to use. You can get a trial pro version or the regular version here.

Protowall is here. Protowall is an IP blocker.

iam not sure if your gateway 300s will cause u problems with the router u going to get.
maybe speak with the manufacturers of ur gateway 300s and they can advise a router that u can use with it, thats one thing u could do.

Well it doesnt depend on the Computer brand or model, it depends on if theirs an ethernet port in the back of your machine. That's mostly if you are using wired networking. Wireless most of the time comes in USB, and you can just plug it in, put in a few details, and start going.
