my wife has a computer at work that is shared with 2 other people and she was having problems with it such as it running slow and continual pop-up's.the so-called computer expert at work said there was nothing wrong with the computer and told her to live with it.well she asked me to sneak in and see if i could fix it.i did and the 1st thing i did was run adaware SE,it found 748 spyware/adware/browser hijacker/tracking cookies.it got rid of most of the stuff except for the browser hijaker stuff.adaware could'nt remove them so the computer is still throwing out some of the pop-up's.adaware removes them but they are back whenever a reboot is done so i guess they are in the windows temp directory.i tried to manuallly remove them but it was to hard because therer is over 200 files.is there a program to get rid of this stuff.the computer is running windows 2000 professional and has all the most recent updates, any help would be greatly appreciated.

check this link out it has plenty of information on spyware, adware and hijack ware.

Also I highly recommend you download these freeware programs to you can get rid of additional spyware. Sometimes spybot can remove some spyware but sometimes it can get rid of it all that is when ad aware personal comes in.

go here to download each program *note they are all free*
get ad aware person from this link
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html

go here to get spyware guard
it prevents spyware from being installed in the first place
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html

btw spyware guard has a browser hijacker prevention feature

spyware blaster

btw runnign ad-aware at startup is a very good idea it kills most of the spyware if not all that it detects before it runs.
