I come to this site often to take in lots of good info from all of you expert folks.
Here's my question: How do I get rid (forever) of IE6 from my XP machine. I want to "upgrade" to firefox (or maybe whatever you all recommend). I may even cross over to Linex.
Thanks in advance !

I'm not sure if you can get rid of it...but...I block my IE with my firewall and installed firefox.
I'm not sure why you want to get rid of it totally.....

IE is still needed at some sites, and for updates.

as far as i know you cannot get rid of ie without messing with winxp so i would suggest doing what Ne007 did

yea just dont use ie, get rid of the icons, change your preferences..its a part of windows so it cant be deleted...but i vote for firefox, very easy and tabbed browser,,but plain and simple..it works better than ie :)

You would need to switch to linux to uninstall it completely, but it doesn't do anything just sitting there.

You can use XPlite to get rid of IE completely.
Be sure to have firefox installed before you get rid of IE, otherwise you'll find yoruself with no internet browser :-P

I would put IE in the closet and use Opera. You will still find a few websites who kiss microsofts ass and will not work right without IE, but for the most part opera works great everwhere. Two words... Mouse gestures!!! gotta love em

Glad to hear another person wants to convert. I've been using Firefox as my main browser for quite some time now. Be sure to check out the extensions. There's many useful ones to help customize it the way you like. I'd suggest keeping IE though. I've also read before removing IE can cause problems. Also, remember some programs use IE as default(I'm not sure if that can always be changed) & you may come across some websites that only load properly in IE. Also, I find it easier to run windows update in IE. I use it as little as possible but still do from time to time so I suggest doing the same. :gj

Firefox 1.0 Preview Release just came out on Mozilla.org......
If you are using 0.9.3, I highly suggest you upgrade to check out all the new features. I'm already using it.

You cannot delete explorer from Windows. It is fully intergrated into the operating system (one of the causes of their legal problems.) But very wise choice to switch to Mozilla...

one url: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/marc.boullet/ext/extensions-en.html (all in one gestures does the same feature)
not to mention no ads, full version is free, it's open source, and endless amounts of add-ons, all free (www.mozdev.org)
