im thinking your media player classic got installed with k-lite codec pack
you gotta delete MPLAYERC.INI
goto in to the media player classic folder x:/program files/k-lite codec pack/media player classic/ and delete it!

media player classic works superbly even in win98se, so that is not the problem. download the k-lite codec pack (go for the advanced version), uninstall media player classic and install k-lite codec pack in any other folder apart from where windows is (advanced installation). it will install media player classic (which is part of the pack) as it is meant to be installed and you should not face any problems... cheers... pupudada

there are different versions for windows 98/ME and 2000/xp, so that might be why...

trust me, if its giving you an error when you open a media file then you need to delete mplayerc.ini
in the mediaplayer classic folder
