University BT Speeds Being Limited

Over the summer, my university apparently installed some sort of packet management system on the network. So we can connect to torrent files, but our speeds are capped. They're supposed to be at like 15kbps i heard someone say but in reality we can barely get above 5. Does anyone know of a way to get around this so my friends and I can get our super speeds of last year back? Thanks.

Note: already tried changing to a higher/different port. Does nothing.

Well if you've already tried a different port, then its probably pretty smart software. If you can still download at full speed something through your web browser, try port 80 as your port. Although this may screw something up, but it's an idea.

Yeah, I tried both port 80 and even the port that AIM uses (as I get full speeds on both of those) and neither worked. I hate life so much now.

The port doesn't make a difference if they have a system that detects the protocol used. In that case the only option is to use some kind of proxy service that encrypts the connection between client and the proxy. This way the system is unable to detect the underlying BT protocol.

Unless it's fun traffic shaping and then he'll need an extreme level of sneakyness and rule breaking.
