Though I never saw the original but it was pretty good if you like scary horror films/movies.

Also I saw within the first week it was released in theatres.

That movie sucked balls so bad words cannot describe how pitiful it was. it was a damned mall movie. They holed up in a mall for the entire duration of the movie running from things that weren't there most of the time. 2 or 3 good scenes at that was it. I wanted to see zombies taking over a city, not some half assed interpretations of intra-dynamics of human panic and emotion in some hypothetical situation. Want a fairly decent zombie movie, see 28 days later.

I saw the movie and thought it kicked ass. I cant wait for the movie to come out on dvd even though I already own a copy...But the orginal is a classic and no re-make could come close to coming to that but go see the movie.

I'm a bit of a horror fan and I liked this movie. A nice update to a classic thriller. I thought the scene where the sniper shot Jay Leno and Burt Reynolds was too funny. Nothing can really touch the Evil Dead series although 28 days later is a fantastic zombie movie too. George Romero has two more zombie movies that will come out next year I'm looking forward to seeing.

I've seen all the Romero classics and remakes. Night '68 and '90, Dawn '77 and '04 and Day '85. Dawn of the Dead '04 was probably the best horror films in a long time. I loved it. In fact, I pretty much second the maddox website opinion pasted above. Anybody who wants some brutal gore and horror.... gots to check it out.

Highest possible recommendation!

If you look past the fact that zombies 'run' in this film......then was good modern horror film.

Much better than 28 days later but not a patch on the original Dawn of the Dead.

As the original DotD is my favorite horror movie of all time (and vying for my favorite movie PERIOD) I was pretty ticked about the remake coming out. There was simply NO WAY for the remake to live up to the original . . . and it didn't. At least, not on Romeros terms.

I was however, pleasantly surprised that the remake didn't completely suck. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a horror movie (as horror movies should, you know, be SCARY on some level!), or even a GOOD movie . . . but it was a fun little popcorn action fluff flick. Unlike the original, you can turn your brain off and have fun watching it.

Overall, my only real problem with the remake was that it used the name "Dawn of the Dead". The only thing it had in common with the original was the mall setting and zombies. Gone was the social commentary, gone was the great dialogue and the well fleshed out characters. In its' place was a lot of action and souped up effects.

Its success, however, helped get Romero the funding for his 4th Dead film "Land of the Dead" . . . so I'm not going to slam the remake THAT hard.

I was just watching it again and noticed Tom Savini made a cameo in the movie. I didn't notice that before. Great cult classic actor. Most will remember him from his "Sex Machine" role in Dusk Till Dawn. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for other uncredited actors now.

Savini was behind of the special effects and stared in the original Dawn Of The Dead, also the main actor from the original DOTD (Ken Foree) has a cameo as televangelist.

Ahhhh, I wondered who the televangelist was. I just couldnt place his face. I just finished watching it again and this time I watched the credits. I didn't know the story kept going all the way through the credits! I think I liked it even more now that I've watched it again.

28 days later sucked, and it wasnt a zombie movie, the people were diseased, but not dead. Hence the cab driver who was infected with blood to the eye, and then went berserk.

The original dawn of the dead was also a mall movie, people holed up there against the zombies.

Did i watch the same movie as you guys? Serious, I have no clue how people think dawn of the dead 2004 rocked. There was very little in the way of action or zombies. people in a mall running around spooked. The sniper scene was funny yes, but this is the Blair witch of zombie movies. Lots of tension, running around freaked out, but not enough zombie action, or action period. OHH Hey, look, the cast can yell obscenities at each other, AWESOME MOVIE!! (if your are twelve and think swearing is cool)

Bring on the flames.

Must have been another movie. There was lots of zombie action, more than any other movie because now zombies can run really fast. Lots of tense moments that held the suspense level. Lots of cool death scenes. Cameos by some cult horror actors. No happy ending, as everyone dies,(if you watch it all the way through the credits)scores big points with me. The uncut version sure cranks it up a notch. Comparing this movie to Blair Witch should be a crime though! That was just a thriller, not horror. Maybe just fans of these types of movies can really appreciate it.

If anyone else likes gore movies look into some Japanese movies, they do it so much better over there. Make anything that comes out here seem G rated. I suggest Ichi the Killer or Versus as two great titles to watch.

I thought 28 days later was pretty good and I heard they were making a sequel to that movie. The next 2 movies by Romero coming out are Diamond Dead(about a dead rock band or something like that) and Land of the Dead(even though I think Twilight of the Dead was a much better title). Speaking of zombie movies you should see Return of the Living Dead and another good japanese movie would be Audition and also Battle Royale.

Dawn of the Dead DOES NOT follow zombie rules. Zombies are supposed to move slow. All zombie fans.....go play Resident Evil 4.

My understanding, however, is that those aren't truly zombies in RE4.

Wingnut can testify for sure.

Ok fine, play doom 3. There's enough zombies in there. If not, play half life 2. If you don't know, these two games have some of the best graphics for the pc.
