Despite my best judgement I have been using BT. But today I recieved the dreaded letter from my ISP (Charter). Universal studios notified them and provided me with the time and date I was downloading said file and what program I was using. I only have used suprnova and not even used it that much. Also the movie in question was not even one I would think they would be even worried about. I should have listened to my own advice, but temptation is a bitch. Goodbye BT!

you could find a private tracker Mel, Suprnova is fed bait because even little monkey and thier mother knows THATS one of the premier public sites.

Yes private would be the way to go. I'm not sure right now though. I'm just gonna lay low a bit to make sure I'm not being watched in any way. Maybe share a bunch of porn and see what happens! lol
Other than the threat of losing my cable service I really don't give a fuck about the letter.

Do you really think they would cut off your cable, even if busted again, or again? There's no threat of being sued or being in any trouble really....

I've been using BT for about 2 years now, with nary a single notice (I got one movie notice when I used klite) but I know that anytime I could get a warning... but warning, schwarning, I don't believe my cable will cut me off... and if they do I've got 4 more broadband providers more than willing to hook me up waiting in line...

Private hubs? It'd have to be very private. Look at all the people who got nabbed recently using Direct Connect. My ISP is charter too, but I don't get movies (just TV shows), so I've been ok so far I guess.

I wonder if the guy that let the FBI guy into the private hub is going to wind up like Al Pacino in Donnie Brasco. You know how vicious and unforgiving those hardened file sharer types can be.

Actually AlPacino was a fairly good guy. Gangster yes, but he did have many soup kitchens for the poor during the Great Depression. I have to keep in mind that this was because when he got arrested and people would say "That guy fed me, I'm not convicting him" so he got off. But yeh, just adding that in.

People have been getting warnings for TV shows too... but remember, they're just warnings anyway... who gives a f?

And yes there are 100% private hubs, you can set one up yourself (I run one...) and only let people in that you trust. No one can get in unless they do penetrate Donnie Brasco style, by which time they would be converted anyway....:)

I believe you're thinking of Al Capone and not Pacino.

If you stop sharing, they win. Go to another network, or go to a secure network like mute.

Before the internet they used to have disc copying parties. They were fun. In two or three hours you could have 15-20 movies.

I'll still be using winmx but thats about it right now. I might look into joining a private BT site down the line.

I use a private open nap server on winmxxx

Yeah, I'm sure they can get me for sharing/getting anything that they think I shouldn't get, but oh well. Like you mentioned, they are just warnings.

I'm a little confused. I thought BitTorrent was untraceable between users. Was the torrent seed you connected to really a fake one...and when you connected to it, the company that planted it there contacted your cable provider?

Who ever told you BT was untraceable was confused. When you connect to any tracker everyone can see every users IP address they are connected to. Its very easy. Even the creator of BT says people shouldn't use it to swap illegal files. All Universal does, as I've been told, is log onto a tracker and log every IP thats getting the file. Its very unsafe. My letter was logged as being caught back in June. No telling how many other times I've been logged.

If your using a program bittornado, just hit the advanced tab and look at everyones IP.

DOWN WITH THE RIAA AND MPAA Support file Sharing.Down With Asscroft The DOJ and the FBI. There are more important problems in the world besides people who file share, like teroisits and murders and the like.
