How slow is slow? | !!!Zonealarm!!! | Bittorrent + Winmx?

I am just amazed that there are ppl here complaining about getting 'only' 50 or 100 k/s download speed. Good grief! I'd kill for 50. I have only 256/64 ADSL connection and I'm over the moon if I get more than 10. I had nightmares with stalling downloads and read everything I could find about configuring routers, firewalls, and anything else I could find about slow DL. The whole system was freezing up and I thought the windoze was broken, so I reinstalled it. No difference. Went to a lot of trouble configuring the DSL modem/router for port forwarding. No difference. Then I remembered somebody saying Zonealarm (5) was bad, so I trashed that and put Sygate instead. Well, now I'm getting 4 k/s and I'm thrilled to pieces. I don't care if Donnie Darko takes a week to get here, just so it does.

Now, the other thing; I've got 8 or so partly downloaded movies from WinMX. Is it ok to have BT client and WinMX running at same time? (I'm using Burst atm seems pretty good to me, no frills) While BT client is running, browser is very slow, as if BT is hogging all available bandwidth. Other question: Since Zonealarm seems to be the culprit here, does it only attack BT clients, or any P2P you might be using? Why I ask is bcuz WinMX was very slow downloading as well.

On WinMX my download speeds are about 20kbs a second.My Bittorrent speeds (depending on the torrent) and from 50-100 kbs.And my Ares speed is 150kbs. I use Ares for single MP3's, Bittorrent for movies and WinMX just for the community and sharing.

Your getting ripped off if your paying more than 20 dollars/month for 256/64. That's absolutely horrible speed for DSL - no offence. You can only upload at barely anything above 56k speed, and you can download @ 32 KBps MAX, if you live really close to your DSL station.

10k?! on adsl thats so bad i agree with hawkburn your getting ripped off.
i have 300k cable and get speeds of 60/70k+ it can get to 100k on edonkey on big files.

I run winmx and bittorrent at the same time a whole lot. I restrict my winmx upload to half my upstream BW and set Bittorrent to the slow cable speed. Works fine for me. The winmx community gets access to my BT download folder so its like their hooked into BT too! lol

Another thing about winmx, when you get a lot of downloads going mx needs a lot of your upload stream for packet checking. If it does not have the upload BW to check quickly, your downloads will slow down. If a bunch of my winmx downloads start, I usually pause Bittorrent. I use Bittornado as it seems to use less resources.

I have 1.5/386 cable and my downloads max out at around 360-380 while uploads max at 45-50, on bit torrent for popular files I get between 100-200 kbps so unless I'm downloading more than one torrent at a time I dont max out.O and yeah youre getting screwed buddy, I pay 45 a month, if you pay more than 20 for your adsl you might as well spend a bit more for something better.

I remeber the days when i had 256k...those were the days...now i have 1120kb/s line, im happy. I want 8megabit but thats quite expensive. Oh yeh, bitspirit gives me pretty good download speed. besst ever. And ares, well i'm not really bothered to download songs, there's no talent in the industry anymore, so why download it?

cable would be much better. Mine keeps me sane. But shit 10 kb/s download speeds is not even worth adsl mine as well use ISDN :P

I can not believe some of the network speed you have all being saying about, i have winmx going on my computer and the other day i had from 900 to 1300 kbps with more then 25 DL at the same time and the UL was 400 kbps with 8 to 10 UL i can not believe most of you that come here are in the grate US of A and you get down loads at so slow and need to pay so much money to down load and i am in China working in a university and get free net 24 7 and the speed can be well over 50 Meg Bit
and china is a developing country. i know when i was living in australia it was slow and cost so much and we was all afraid of the FED's coming to the Door to take us away as we down load some thing that was copy right. all i ask here is if some one can help me to get BitTorrent working on the other PC on my lan in my home, as if i start it win mx will stop the DL . ???

I'm using Comodo Firewall with no problems. I did use Zonealarm before and had huge problems with it. It was blocking everything from utorrent. Do you have ipv6 installed?:icon_scra
