hello every1

i am new 2 these forums, though i have been researchin on this site for a about a month now. i just now am back into the P2P scene after 3 years. i have download the install programs for quite a few P2P programs, but i have only installed 2 thus far. they are eDonkey2000 and BearShare. seeing as how this is an eDonkey forum, that is where my questions will pertain :)

i have read so much about how great eDonkey is. i have not had such an experience myself. everytime i try to download anything, it takes forever. and no, i am ot using 56k, i am using a broadband connection. the reason seems to be that every dl i have ever tried on eDonkey is queued. everytime i have queue places in the multiple thousands.

this has frustrated me to the point of not using eDonkey. b4 i uninstall the program, i figured i'd ask if there is something i'm missing or not seeing here.

thank you

This is nothing unusual. ed2k is just a slow network, although it is one of the best in terms of not having fake files and having the best quality releases available. Usually with ed2k you can just leave it overnight, and by the time you get back to it in the morning, it'll have sped up some. Please note that ed2k is not for small files such as mp3s. It is good for movies, full albums, programs, and things of that sort. Welcome to ZeroPaid. I need to go eat lunch but I'm sure someone will give you a little more info.

the whole point of the ed2k network is patience, it is absolutely great in variety, the only problem are the speeds. it is recommended tohave at least 5 or more downloads (depending of your connection) at all times, also, try to upload as much as possible since this gives you preference on downloads

I prefer emule for the ed2k network.

Check if you are low-id or high-id. If you are low-id then configure your firewall and/or connection sharing system.

I havn't Tried the new Edonkey program (1.0 I believe). I remember with the old version you needed to increase you connections allowable from 45 to a higher number. This allowes you to be queued behind more people with a better chance of one becoming available sooner. Check your options settings, 400 to 600 connections usually works the best. If this doesn't help it won't hurt to try Emule which is also an outstanding program.

Do not try to download alot of Items at once and if you trying to download individual music files try a different network. Edonkey Excels at Large files 50meg+

when you run an edonkey/emule client for the first time you should leave it running at least 24 hours continuously. You have to build up contacts and with emule to build up credit. If you want it to work really well it's simple: never switch it off. As someone already mentioned have a lot in your queue of downloads, 15 good size files or more. Unless all of these are incredibly rare then you will be maxing out your connection after a few days with edonkey 1.0
If you have a good modem that can handle a lot of connections without locking up then increase the number of max connections to maybe 150 or 200 and also increase the hard limit of sources per file to 1000.
To find the best verified ed2k links visit shareconnector, pleasuredome101, ed2k-it, musicdonkey.org. Also fileheaven.org is the best place for movies and the best run board but it very rarely accepts new members these days, but who knows, check in regularly, make the right friends in other ed2k places and you might get to know when the big heavy door is briefly open and a few of the clamouring masses are able to squeeze in and register.

Well I suppose he just wants to refer you to those link sites. If you get a link from one of the major sites, there will be many sources to that file, thus greatly increasing your chance of fast downloads, as opposed to just searching through ed2k.

http://www.emuleplus.tk/

eMule Plus is a mod of the classic eMule client, it adds alot of features, bugfixes, and enhancements. I suggest all eMule users switch over to it. eMule is the most popular ed2k client, and eMule Plus is the most popular mod of it because of so many dev's that contribute to it.

just noticed something, thought i would ask

as i said in my first post, i have both BearShare and eDonkey2K. recently, whenever i open up BearShare now, it asks me:

"BearShare is not registered as your default ed2k handler. do you want to register it?"

what does that mean? does that mean that BearShare can access the ed2k network as well?
