You close downloads as soon as 100% completed and not even seed until 100%. (AKA Leecher). So then people will start blocking your IP address and you will always download slow ?

Yes, unfortunately it is true. But usually by the time you download 5% of the file, you start uploading at your max. It's unfortunate that some people don't share once they finish their download. The rule of BitTorrent, is that the more you upload (the faster), the faster you download.
Happy 1500 posts to me.

Indeed... it's funny though as most of my ratio on certain private sites is DVD related...and on publics it's basically TV shows with a 2:1 ratio if they're 350 or below. 350 for a half an hour show and 700 for a full 42 minutes....thats more then fair.

No one blocks IP addresses of those who dont seed to 100%! Perhaps some private trackers. But lets be honest - what does it matter? BT maxes out my connection, so people quitting isn't going to make me lose sleep.

I don't always leave every torrent open after downloading is finished. If a torrent is fast and has enough seeds, I close it out so I can use my bandwidth on a torrent that needs it. To me this is a better way of supporting torrents than leaving each one open until your at 1:1 and if you use BT alot, it becomes impossible to leave them all open. Choose which ones need the most help and leave them open as long as you can.

I whole heartedly agree Mel as I pick and choose too.
Like some sorry people you meet, some need more help than others.
Wow...sorry that sounded kind of bad

i do
i take full advantage of the "snub" function--your overall ratio is less than 1? feel free to wait until it is, because i'll choke you till then
i have precious little upload, and i'm not wasting it on assholes

That's why TorrentBits is so great and so fast, is because only about 3% of the users are assholes. Everyone else shares at least to some extent. My current ratio there is 2.945 so I did my part!

Can't you just pick a small file to upload to get your ratio way up fast?

Can't you just pick a small file to upload to get your ratio way up fast? There arent any small files, besides music on TorrentBits, and after about 2 days there are no more leechers on music. The only type of files that stay around for the whole month they stay on the tracker is porn.
The ratio is dependent on the number of gigabytes/megabytes you upload vs download, not by averaging all the ratios of the torrents youve downloaded.

I don't usually leave mine open, but my BT uploads maybe 3+ what I download, and fair is fair. :)

I recently spent a total of about 3-5 days downloading 3 dvd-r torrents. I kept my comp on for 3-5 days, rebooted after DLs were complete, and kept the comp on for 2 nights again just for uploads.
What a pain, trying to share and get at least 1:1 ratio on files larger than 4+ gigs, I'd rather just spend my 10-20 dollars buy the dvd to save me my bloody time. :hole

What a crock of sh!t you whiney bastard. Yeah it's a real pain to leave a program running. You are just a lazy ass leacher. Save you the time? What time? Are you coding a new client....What great amount of time have you invested in the download of this movie? That's right folks absolutely nothing...other than clicking on a .torrent link.

Some people have a mental image of themselves thats highly reguarded as opposed to their real world counter parts...he somehow feels a FREE opensource application and all the hard work and risk that goes into running decent sized trackers....is responsible for his happiness and time well spent..
Smoke a joint and go play with your tight chest muscles that aren't really there in the mirror friend...

Well I do end up seeding higher than 2, but that time occurs along time after the download actually finishes. When my download actually finishes my ratio is usually about 0.25.
If everyone snubbed people who were under 1 then download speeds would be restricted to upload speeds which in my case would mean very slow downloads (I have a 10 mbps/128 kbps connection).

About how Bit Torrents .. do WHAT? Surely you're not implying they actually ...no.. you must be new... Bit Torrents WORK!!!!
You cannot be serious.
Biggest, over-rated pile of ka-ka since Windows ME
They don't work. You end up with piles of 99% complete (if you're lucky)
Nobody uploads. Nobody continues seeding. All they are good for is this week's episode of whatever if you can't get it elsewhere.
Forget em mate they're a bigger con than MLM. They tell you that works too. Your Euros/dollars/pounds just go up the tree to make someone else wealthy... your bytes/Kilobytes/Megabytes just go up the tree to get someone else the file.
You want files fast at full throughput... use the Newsgroups. Nothing else comes close.

I'm lost? Is that sarcasm? a joke maybe?
I remember reading a while back someone else trolling the same thing. You wouldn't be he/she would you, just under another username?
Your bittorrent comments are utter crap, but you are right about newsgroups being fast.

No.. I wouldn't be he.
It's a very common view-point. Once you've tried it for a while it all becomes very clear.
Come on: admit it! Torrents really are a pile of crap! Of course.. you need other people to BELIEVE they work so that they'll sit their for hours feeding you the bits of files that you too HOPE will eventually arrive on your PC.
Hey I've tried em mate. Had the first client. Tried all the new clients. Every so often I try it again. I try suprnova. I try other sites. Trackers, servers... Excatly the same.. piss-poor bandwidth. A directory full of incomplete files that will never be filled cos the file has vanished and there's hundreds of people, just like me, with the same half-completed file.
Also, come on.. how many times have you heard people complain about being stuck on 99%. I see it on every single BT forum i go on. They can't all be wrong/noobs/idiots/ or.. the same person!!
Want some advice?
cd c:\program files\bittorrent

cd newsleecher

*yawn* i have tried it for a "while".
I'm bored so i'm going to play along.
If everyone is sitting around 'feeding me bits of files' then where is all their upload bandwidth going? Oh wait i know what your going to say, some terrorist organisation that are out to take over the world. You make it sound like there is customs or something that are in between file transfer, yeah right, file transfers can get lost in the mail :|
I have tried the first client, i won't claim i've tried *all* of the clients, but i have most of them. But as such an intelligent internet user you would know that the clients all work almost exactly the same, so that is just a mute point.
I have never had a problem with a file not completing, but then i also ensure that the file i download off has more than ZERO seeders.
Oh yeah, and for whoever actually takes him seriously, cause we all know how much fun it is to spark baseless contraversy for the hell of it, i wouldn't take his advice, always 'Uninstall'.
Anyways, back to watching a movie that I sat in front of my computer with a cold sweat, praying that it would reach my computer. (more like started it two hours ago and went out and had a nice eggs benedict and came home to a 100% completed file).
