Has anyone else seen this movie? Its hard to believe Miramax has sat on this film for 2 years. Its one of the most beautiful films I've seen in some time. I'm glad Quentin Tarantino stood up for this film and got it released uncut. Its very moving and a real must see film. Did i mention how beautiful it is?

for those that don't want to work for it.

Looks interesting, I suppose.

Rated PG-13 for stylized martial arts violence and a scene of sensuality.

Oh no! Sensuality! Put the kids to bed!

Hero was shallow and boring. The fighting scenes weren't even that good and unlike Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon the whole movie felt like a cheap commercial for some lemonade.

This movie reflects chinese culture as it is today: arrogant, hollow and totally fucked by capitalism.

The reason QTs name is now with the film is because he got Miramax to release this movie. Miramax sat on this movie for 2 years and had edited it a lot. QT stepped up and got them to release the movie uncut. Its unclear if he had to put up his own money to get this movie released.

Geez

You sound like i was when i was 14.

Hero poises the question of who is the hero of the story: Nameless (Jet Li) in his quest to save China by asasinatiing the Emperor, or the Emperor in his quest to conquer all of China by killing anyone who apposes him or gets in his way, simultaneously taking the away the people’s freedom and protecting them. Both characters believe that their way is the right way for the people of china. Emotions in each scene are partly conveyed through the colour of the actor costumes.

I would say Hero is an art film, so to quote a review of the film: "its a flick that will still piss off people who thought Cradle 2 the Grave "rocked". "

It's certainly not a hollywood popcorn (leave your brain at the door) film, so people going in expecting a 'kick ass' fight movie will be disappointed.

The cinematographer for Hero was Christopher Doyle who did the cinematography for films such as:

Rabbit-Proof Fence,
The Quiet American,
Lots of Wong Kar Wai films
and the visual consultant for Infernal Affairs.

Quentin Tarantino did manage to get MiramAXE to finally release the film for western audiences, but did not manage to get the film released in its uncut form. MiramAXE forced 20 minutes of cuts of the film. Though the uncut film will probably get its release on the US dvd release.

Damn I thought it was going to be uncut!!!??? Guess I read an old review. Why are they cutting it I wonder. I think John W must be thinking of another movie, the story was superb and thought provoking.

CCS, I finaly saw Man on Fire, great movie. Another very well shot film. But I have to say, after watching it, I was a little concerned why you liked it. lol. Do you feel the need to become a body guard now?

HAHA...

Seeing as I'd already die for a child....if it's Dakota Fanning then I'd go with a smile on my face just as Denzel did. :P
