LOS ANGELES -- Funk legend Rick James, best known for the 1981 hit "Super Freak" before his career disintegrated amid drug use and violence that sent him to prison, died Friday. He was 56.
James died in his sleep at his residence near Universal City, said publicist Sujata Murthy. James lived alone and was found dead by his personal assistant, who notified police, she said.
Police and Murthy believe James died of natural causes.

I can attest to it's sucky-ness.
It did little for me the first time and that was that....not worth it if your genes ain't somehow hooked to it. The ending sucks as well...I hate being zombied out with the med sour taste running down the back of my throat... I'll pass....
Our family has the smoking genes.... we die young when we don't smoke cigarrtes/cigars and live to 70-90 when we start choaking back the smoke early on in our teen years.

LOS ANGELES - Toxicology and other tests determined that funk singer Rick James died last month from a heart attack due to an enlarged heart, with numerous drugs including methamphetamine and cocaine contributing factors, the county coroner announced Thursday.
The death was declared an accident, said coroner's spokesman David Campbell (news), who emphasized that none of the drugs were found to be at life-threatening levels.
"He didn't die of a drug overdose," Campbell said.
