I was recently on dsl, but due to nazi parents i got pushed down to 56k dialup.
Well anyways, it seems that whenever someone picks up the phone, i disconnect.

As my parents are paranoid about everything, they constantly check to see if i'm online and disconnect me almost every 10 minutes, killing any attemp to download or gaming.

I've tried it myself and it does in fact disconnect, first it lags then it dies away.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem is with 56k is that it's connected to via the phoneline. So you cant do anything about it. However if u want modem speed without having to disconnect then get isdn.

Yeah, that sucks. There isn't a lot you can do about it though.

Use dialup networking on your account instead of the dialer they give you from the ISP. It will auto redial when the connection is lost. Less hassle of losing a download on your file sharing networks.

Other than that, I suggest you work and get some money to pay for a good well-priced broadband service.

try unhooking all the phones in your house when you go online, this might get your point across or atleast buy you another few seconds before you get cut-off

Hey...that may suound funny but it might work..
<.<

And for the "pay for myself" issue, according to my parent's nazi'ing they insist that "if i continue to live under their house i must follow their rules" so I can't get a faster connection, even if i try to pay myself. Not old enough to go out and fend for myself yet =/
