Movie question

Being 'hearing impaired', I rely on captions. Will downloaded movies have these?

Only if they're in ogm or DVD-R format, as avi doesn't have the ability to include subtitles.

For Avi/mpeg and all other subless movies Google "DivX subtitles" and you can basically overlay the sub txt files you download from the site(s) for each movie. It may be off timing wise, but that won't be a problem, you'll be reading at your own pace and following the story should be fine.

Some avi's have the subs "burned in" to the image, but these are generally for foreign films distributed around the US.

And then there's aprogram called vobsub... I haven't used it myself, but our foreign bretheren use it to watch english movies. More and more I'm finding sub files present in my movie downloads....

you can also usually find a subtitle file/archive on such filesharing networks as eMule (eDonkey2000) for most movies that can be found. Just look for a SUB and ENG in the filename
