few questions... first time user.

1 - Why do some of my downloads stop after only 5 seconds, reconect and stop again?
2 - Are the server always only 1-4 sends?
3 - How do I share files back? Do I have to be a server to share?
4 - Is it safe? (virus, hackers)
5 - Can you get more then one file at a time with the get command?
6 - Do incomplete dls auto resume on there own? or do I have to search them out again, wait in line, then rusume them by "get" [tmd]File.Name.Here.(0of0).avi?
7 - How do you get out of queue lines if you want to cancle? (without disconecting)
8 - Is it a waist of time to keep a Triggers list? do they change daily?
9 - What is Distro?
10 - Why didn't I learn how to do this before? its so easy.

hm, lets see here
1 if they transfer too slow, they server will cut them off.
2 Usually, cause they have limited bandwidth
3 You must be a server to share, or you can send files to a certain person by initiating the transfer.
4 You can get viruses, and often will get threatened to be hacked. NEver happened to me
5 not that i know of
6 not that i know of, you must search, i think
7 usualy there is a command, look at the server command list in the motd of that specific sharer
8 don't know. I wouldn't think that they change daily.. dunno
9 a distro is a distribution of a software. like a mod. every different linux is a distro of unix. mitrc is a distro of irc client
10 some peeps think it is complicated because it is all text. ehh

hope i helped, anyone, feel free to add or correct me, cause i am not sure about all this stuff

I'm not going to answer these in any particular order.

9.. I think Distro is also a release group.. but I'm not 100% sure.
4.. I would consider IRC the most un-safe network, in terms of not what you download, but just by being there. Make sure you keep auto-accept file transfers OFF. If you keep it on, trojan bots will easily get to you within a minute.
8.. I dont see the point.. the bots list their triggers every 5 minutes.

I'll add a few things to some of the points here:

2. It's a good thing they have a low number of slots, this keeps up the speeds.
3. You can serve files using an fserv pretty easily, just download an addon and set it up.
4. IRC as a network used to not have much for protection for it's users. Lately, many servers have adopted many defensive stratagies, such as masking your IP from all users other than Ops. Nothing is fool proof, if you worry about it much, connect through a proxy.
5. Do you mean more than one file from a bot? Usually no. If you're referring to an fserv, then probably yes
6. You have to set this up in the options menu, it's been awhile and I don't remember exactly where it is, just dig around in the DCC section, but you don't have to do anything special to resume the download.
7. Each bot software has a different command, some share a method, just read the "readme's" on entering new rooms.
8. If you want you can keep a list, they don't change often if ever0.
10. All text? pfft, only if you connect through telnet or bitchx, but still, I think IRC is seen as unsafe and a "hacker's playground" which it remains in some networks, but for the most part, it's clean and safe now, but the old reputation stuck.

don't download the tmd reencoded crap, it's against the scene rules and for a good reason - apart from the fact that losers like TMD and SMR steal other people's releases, the quality is total shit. stick with the original releases

also, in a general sort of way to keep IRC and the scene from getting "hot" it would be a good idea to remove the NFO's and any other ident information before sharing it on K++, and if you're going to leach their files maybe you should consider serving a little something for them, sharing is caring.

The server disconnects you if you are not under the set minimum DL speed--which is different for different bots/servers.

Usually 1-4 sends, yes.

Initiate or run a sever, yes.

In a word, no. But what is? Some scripts don't even require that they be "run" in order to do its work, which may compromise your machine. That and having to turn on auto-accept connections to receive queued files from bots can make this a nasty combination. But for the most part, mIRC isn't too bad.

You can't get more than one file from the same bot simultaneously--usually. You can get multiple files from multiple bots, however.

Check the DCC options to auto-resume. I know this involves changes at least 2 settings to work correctly.

Check the help for the server. If you are using a script, find it there.

I don't use a list.

Distro may be a release group. It also can refer to the distribution (aka distro) of the client you are using, but rarely is this the case. It may also refer to where the file is being distributed from (where's the distro for blah blah blah? for ex)

I don't know. mIRC is pretty neat.

EDIT: also, edit your post, like I did with this one, to remove the names. Secondly, nobody really cares about those cams because they are so crappy. Even alot of 56k users would rather wait for something better rather than DL soemthing crappy, then DL something again that is better.

1 - Why do some of my downloads stop after only 5 seconds, reconect and stop again?
A. They may limit the byte rate, if it falls below 300 or 1000 bytes, they will cut you off. Mostly since they want cable connected people to get the files and reshare.
2 - Are the server always only 1-4 sends?
A.Most times they can be more but it will slow everyones download, and depending if their downloading themselfs.. Plus usually they have a couple more slots open sending txt list out with what their sharing.
3 - How do I share files back? Do I have to be a server to share?
A. You dont have to be a server, but you have to have a script that acts like a server. Omen is one of the popular ones you can get, everything is remote, and it will get files and resume downloads.
4 - Is it safe? (virus, hackers)
A. mIRC has never been safe, yet their is a ton of precuations they use which will ban Ip strings from the whole network or kline.. blacklist.. Even ops that will jump out of their room, and come back in. To see if anyones sending vicisous scripts to people who join the channel or quit, if they find you serving a virus or have one, they will kick you and give you a homepage to go to, so you can remove it. Hackers playground it has been. mostly taking over channels.
5 - Can you get more then one file at a time with the get command?
A.You can get a ton of files at the same time, but you need to list them seperately, the script can handle any request that you may have in getting a song.
6 - Do incomplete dls auto resume on there own? or do I have to search them out again, wait in line, then rusume them by "get" [tmd]File.Name.Here.(0of0).avi?
A. They dont resume on their own unless you retype the request and they resend it. IF you have a script, it will read that the download wasnt complete and request it again on its own.
7 - How do you get out of queue lines if you want to cancle? (without disconecting)
A. Alot of times you just put their name in and put cancel or remove in there. ANd its a done deal, but it will cancel all queues with that user.
8 - Is it a waist of time to keep a Triggers list? do they change daily?
A. It depends on what you think is a waste.
9 - What is Distro?
A Did you get it from MIRC?
10 - Why didn't I learn how to do this before? its so easy.
A. I dunno.

Yes I have heard alot of talk about TMD stealing there files, but there the best I have found so far. SMR is crap and AMC has so little files out there. I know they reencode for size and quicker downloads, and some are crap yes, but I try to only dl the files the are around or close to 200mb. The quality around 200 isn't so bad, plus if I like the movie I buy it when the dvd is released so I dont really miss anything.
As for the original releases, I don't know where to get them. I have used kazza and nsanes k++ for the longest time and the files on shermans networks is all I really now. I only just started to use mirc a few days ago.

About my first quetion, why I was getting cut off. I think I know why now. I dont think it was because on my connection speed, I think it was because the first time I used mirc when I made this thread I was in like 20 different queue lines for the same file. So I would be dl form one person, then another and another would be tring to send me the same file over and over again, that and people go offline sometimes.
Q 7 is clr_queues, this will cancle all queues with a fserv, took me a while to read the help.
Q 9 about the distro, I heard of it from the TMD channels. I think its the first link in there chain, the source of where all there files come from. Distro gives the files to the fserv, then I get my files from the fserv. but I could be wrong.

Try BitTorrent or eDonkey for the originals. WAY better.

Ya maybe I'll give eDonkey a try, I have tried BitTorrent before and I didn't really care for it. I tried to dl DBZ The Cell Games, and for an hour I was searching for peers. I don't know maybe I'll give it another shot.
