Well, I managed to get DOOM 3 about 4 or 5 days ahead of the release date, been playing it since last night. A Best Buy in Brookfield Wisconsin Broke the release date and started selling them on Friday or Saturday. I called up the store and asked for him to confirm that indeed they had shelved doom 3. He said yes. I asked him if he could set a copy aside for me since i would be driving from North East Indiana. (since they would all be gone by the time i got there) He hid one for me. And sure enough when i arrived, they were all gone except for the copy he hid away for me.
I drove over 5 1/2 hours one way to get this game, and it WAS WORTH IT.

but imagine how upset you would of been if the game sucked. I can understand driving that far for a girl, sex, whatever. But a game is unheard of. So the release date is Tuesday?

Guys this game is so above and beyond anything i have ever experienced it is amazing. it is truly horrific. The graphics are to the point where you get freaked out when you see something shambling towards you casting shadows all over the place. The time is gone where in games in order to scare you they would have to JUMP OUT at you. No, in DOOM 3 you get the willies when you see something approaching, anxiety sets in you you start shooting like mad because you DO NOT want that thing getting close to you.
I can post some screens if you like, the game is only on medium quality but still looks amazing (there is still the HIGH quality, and ULTRA settings which my PC cannot handle,) it runs just fine on my PC, a lot better than i thought it would, John Carmack is amazing at making his technology scale.
IRT Shawners, yes supposedly, but most likely it wont be widely available until Thursday or Friday.

That looks damn good on medium quality, I'm very anxious to see how it will run on my system, if it doesn't, I'll just buy a new gaming rig. God I hope my credit is still good..LOL

Okay, this is spookey. I go to school in muncie Indiana, but I am working in Brookfield Wisconsin for the summer, right across the street from that Best Buy. Do you *know* how freaky this is?
I mean, I made that 5 and 1/2 hour drive like 4 times this summer, so I know exactly the path you took.
And above all else, I didn't frickin' know they had stocked Doom 3! And I work across the street! If they're all gone, I'm gonna frickin' smake you. :P

yeah, that IS weird, very. One reason i was so willing to take the trip was i used to live in Franklin Wi. and i still take several trips up there yearly, so it doesnt seem like that long of a drive to me, plus i know the way. 30 west to 65 north, 65 north to 80-94, 80-94 to edens express way (if you are feeling brave, and want to see downtown chicago) or 80-94 to the Wisconsin toll. then get off on exit 327 to highway 100 :-D lol

Yup that's pretty much the route. I work in a 4 story building directly across from the mall that's a couple blocks from that best buy, but I'm moving back to muncie in a couple weeks to finish college.
Now to call best buy, the bastards!

holy shit...after reading what you said about getting it 4 days early I couldnt help myself and had to check some of my favourite trackers. Sure enough....*cough*
John Carmack might be pissed if he knew.
I can actually see why p2p scares the shit out of the major conglomorates
There are no real release dates for anything...

I sat at my computer and clicked a link, and then watched some movie, volume 2 or something, while it was completing, and it WAS WORTH IT.

The releaser was actually quite generous. Along with the game, you get a keygen, the manual, and cheats.

be my guest, go ahead and tell me if it works ;)
Point being, you SHOULD pay for peoples hard works, this isn't like the music industry, they actually make ALL there money from bought copies, it isn't like John Carmack goes on tour and you pay to watch him program, buy the fucking game. 4 years and more millions then i can imagine went into this game.

The artist work hard, the film industry works hard.. Ive seen artist spend months in a recording studio.. in and out of tour. Im sure the game company aka RIAA. Gets most of the money while the developers get pennies per copy sold. Well wait to the DOOM 3 convention to pay 25 dollars to see their show to support the game developers.

lol fair enough but I was not advocating the cake and eat it too I was just pointing out a reality thats getting hard to ignore. Facinating because this is what they argue is killing
the market. I wonder if we will get like China where the piracy rate for almost everything
hovers around 90% I dont agree with corporate greed but I dont think that senario is going to be good for the economy
It used to be kind of funny when you read that a pre release or something was leaked
now its so common its amazingly silly.

Just a little update. I played the game all last night and let me tell you, it scared the crap out of me. I can't really tell you in words how amazing this game is, you'll just have to play it for yourself. It's like being immersed in your own personal zombie horror flick. I don't think a single piece of media released has freaked me out like this since I first saw Event Horizon. I bought the game today so that I can play online and to contribute to Carmack and his incredible team's efforts. A+++++++++++++++++

Yep...I already had it before you Psi....and I haven't even installed it yet. I need to free up some space...
I've gone on a DVD-R kick for the past few weeks......gigs never filled so fast for me...can't even extract my beloved Pornation DVD rips...lol
edit: Mini, Silent Hill scared the fuck out of me..... after a few joints and a dark room at 3 am...those freaky lil imp things in the school...ugh...stay the fuck back!
*starts freeing up space* I need to see if this is anything like that...

I completely agree with all said. This game is worth the money. You get so into the game that it feels like you're really there getting hurt.
I can't believe how realistic everything looks...and how amazing it is even at medium settings! The lighting is by far the best I have ever seen, not to mention the level of detail in every level.
This game is above and beyond any game ever....and should be until HL2 comes out :)

There is a single player mod called "duct tape" that duct tapes a flashlight to your weapons.
