Shareaza runs on Gnutella, Gnutella2, and Edonkey. Also supports Torrent. Completely free, no shitware, you can get their source code as well. :gj

There were a lot of Shareaza fanboys around a while back, but it's still my favourite main-stream P2P client. I suggest you only connect to Gnutella and G2 with it.

*Hiss* Boo! CACklE1!!11 Get a better-supported Gnutella client, like Bearshare, instead of going with buggy, partially functioning Shareaza.

I like Shareaza 2.0. Gnutella does take a while to connect. G2 is great. eDonkey support is so-so.

why not ed2k? I get a highID within seconds of launching the app on a good server, and get decent speed and results, especially on vids.

I can't stand emule, but I use an emule clone (xmule) on linux.

I think there are some compatibility issues between Shareaza and ed2k network. It's been discussed on shareaza wiki before. I'm not a programmer, but it deals with shareaza causing too much overhead (25% of all overhead on ed2k servers while it constitutes only 2% of its user base).

Experiment with shareaza and emule, look for some rare files and you'll see that they'll download with emule but not with shareaza. It could be that shareaza is prevented access into the network.
