Virtuoso violinist Eugeniy Chevkenov will be accompanied on the piano by Mario Angelov at The Vilhena Palace Courtyard in Mdina on Wednesday, 28 July at 8.00pm. The two Bulgarian musicians are all set to delight their audience when they play the famous poetic rendition of Cesar Frank's Sonata in A major FWV 8.
Entitled The Magic Violin, the performance is part of the musical concerts of he International Summer Festival presented by Alan Chircop and James Grech, artistic directors of the Stradivari Season.
Other works in the programme include Brahms' Hungarian Dance No 2 in D Minor and Scherzo in C; Paganini's Cantabile in D; Massenet's Meditation from the opera "Thais"; Liebesleid and Schoen Rosmarin by Kreisler and six Romanian Dances by Bartok .
A regular violinist with the Vienna Philarmonic since 2000, Eugeniy Chevkenov has performed in more than 25 countries around the world. Mario Angelov, known as an interpreter of contemporary music, is the holder of a number of international awards. He is a frequent guest pianist at several European festivals and was also invited to perform in Japan. Mario Angelov is currently the solo resident pianist at the Bulgarian National Radio.
The International Summer Festival presented by the Stradivari Season is being held within the framework of the Summer Cultural Activities Series 2004. This Series, which ranges from music and dance to film and theatre is oganised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c.
