if you havent already installed it. I should have put this here earlier, but maybe everyone's seen it already. from microsoft.com:
"Licensed customers will continue to enjoy product updates and access to Windows Update. Service pack 1 will fail to install on Windows XP installations using either of two well-known pirated product keys. Additionally, Windows Update will verify the product key used to install Windows XP against a list of valid product keys to ensure installations made with cracked or pirated product keys will not receive access. "
Im sure they will ifnd a way around this, but in the meantime I would be careful...

To avoid all problems, just download the FTF release of XP Corporate with SP1.

I saw an article on www.labmice.net about how to change the Windows XP Product Activation Key Code. I think it had to be taken down due to Microsoft requesting it be taken down, but I bet you can find it on the Gnutella or Fasttrack networks by searching for it (it being How to change the Windows XP Product Activation Key Code).

why even bother to upgrade at all? the crap they fix is only the tip of the iceberg as far as flaws in security go--there are a lot of smart cookies out there, and if they really want in to your computer they'll get in. the main question to that would be "why would they bother?"

i'd worry more about microsoft coming and going in than i would about malicious hackers--they have proven themselves a security threat with past actions (forced EULA terms allowing them access etc.)
