The Stradivari Season is presenting two more grand concerts in the International Summer Festival series at one of Malta's most spectacular and romantic venues -- the Grand Harbour in Valletta.

Bulgarian pianist Mario Angelov will present A Romantic Chopin Evening on Wednesday, 21st July at 8.00pm. The programme will include Sonata Op.58 B minor; Scherzo op.39, No 3 in C sharp minor; eight Preludes from Op.28 ; three Mazurkas Op. 30 and Polonaise Op.53 in A flat Major.

Mario Angelov is holder of a number of awards namely The Young Pianist Competition Senigalia, Italy 1984; Prize and Special Award at The Albert Roussel Contest, Sofia 1991; and First Prize and International Academy of Arts Award at the Provadia 1994 Competition. An outstanding soloist, accompanist and chamber musician, he is a frequent guest at several festivals in Europe and Asia. He has premiered more than 20 works by leading composers. Mario Angelov is currently the solo resident pianist at the Bulgarian National Radio.

The highlight of The International Summer Festival is a spectacular orchestral concert. Mro. Alan Chircop will present the National Orchestra, with the guest participation of violinist Eugeniy Chevkenov, in a Grand Orchestral Concert on Friday, 23rd July at 8.00pm at the Grand Harbour, Valletta. The romantic programme includes Weber's Freischutz overture, Mendelssohn`s Italian Symphony and Grieg's famous Peer Gynt Suite no.1. The main work in the first part of the programme will be one of Beethoven's most beautiful and popular masterpieces, the Violin Concerto.

Soloist, Eugeniy Chevkenov is recipient of numerous international prizes and in 2000 he was awarded the Honour Citizenship of Austria and City of Vienna for extraordinary achievements in music. He plays as a regular sub with the Vienna Philharmonic and performed in more than 25 countries around the world.

Alan Chircop, who is also the artistic director of The International Summer Festival 2004, graduated in Lyon, Leipzig & Vienna. He performed extensively in many European countries. He conducted several international symphony orchestras and future engagements for the coming seasons include concerts in Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, USA, France, Moldavia, Italy and Macedonia.
The International Summer Festival presented by the Stradivari Season is being held within the framework of the Summer Cultural Activities Series 2004. This Series, which ranges from music and dance to film and theatre is oganised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts and sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c.
