why is it that only ONE comp can use a service in port forwading with wireless router Netgear MR814?
is there other wireless routers that allow more than one comp to use a single port?

if you were running an ftp server on two computers, and someone tried to connect to your IP to do some ftp transferring...how would the router know which one he wanted?

why don't you just use a different port Monkey. You could get the two ftp servers to run as one virtual server, then use port 21 to have them connect to the same server. I don't remember what it's called when you connect ftp servers together, CPU probably knows though.
You could make one server at port 21, the other at another port, then make the second connect to the first so you can make a virtual ftp server at port 21.
I don't even know if that makes sense to me... lol

Use non default ports. An FTP is an FTP whether it's running on port 21, or port 999. Makes no difference. Same with all other services. Just be careful what services you DO run. The more services, the less secure your computer is, meaning that it's easier to break into a computer running lots of services rather than a computer running only a few.

He's right. The only difference is when someone wants to access an FTP to your computer, they would have to put in the port manually instead of by default, which takes 2 seconds anyway. He's also right about running too many services. When you open those ports, your essentially opening a window (if comparing to a house) that anyone can walk right in, if they're small enough to get through the window (if their good enough with their computer)

Do this. I have this router, it works no problem.
Just go to add custom service. Enter the IP address of the server (e.g., your IP) and use FTP as the service type. Choose a port other than one of the defaults that comes listed with the router... like 542, or 22985, or whatever you want.

Ya I had to do the same to get Warcraft 3 working in 3 computers, just use a different port for each, works just as well...
