I recently tried installing windows xp onto my system (i have windows me right now) and the installation went great, everything was fine, and when it was finished I rebooted. When it loaded the desktop it froze with a blurring image.. like a color smear. I tried installing it many times after and it did the same thing. I was about to boot xp in safe mode and tried to mess with the resolution but to no avail. Windows Me works fine (well... for windows me anyway..) as I reinstalled it :mellow . But I really want xp installed. I think it is a problem with my monitor (its an old Princeton Graphics System VGA) because I have a 32 mb ddr video card, 1.3 AMD Althon, 384 megs sd ram, 60 gig hd, and I have Red Hat and Mandrake running fine on their own partitions.. so the monitor is the only thing I can think of that is making xp fuck up.

Please excuse my rambling :-P

Please help!

:devilMoon are you doing a fresh install of XP or doing an upgrade?

Try getting newer video drivers from the manufacturer that are xp compatible.

When XP runs it requires a monitor run 800 X 600 minimum. If you have a very old monitor, the monitor just won't cope. That could be it.

I tried an upgrade and then a fresh install. Both left me with the same problem. I will try for more xp compatible video drivers, that may help, but I am pretty certain that cheapprick is right that my monitor is shit and I need to get a new one. Thanks all for responding!

My monitor is at least 5 years old and im running Windows XP Pro perfectly fine. However if your not running video drivers that are XP compatible then that is why. What is your video card anyways?

Anyways run windows update and get the updates especially if it has any driver updates..
