That should be "kick-ass"! If it really does connect to all those networks, this app might really become a biggie in the near future.
I have some question to ask, but since you say on the site that you canīt answer many of them for now, Iīll leave them for a later date...

I'm willing to awnser certain questions, just not "whenz this going to be released d00d!" and whatnot. :)
I'll also be awnsering questions in IRC, or through AIM, untill I get swammped that is. But untill then you're free to ask anything.

It will be out when itīs out, right?
What Iīm curious about is how it connects to all those networks...does it connect to the WHOLE network or just part of it (like iMesh does with FastTrack, for example)?
Will it support all file types? Multi-source d/līs? d/l resume?
Oh, and no offence, but will it have any kind of ad/spyware?
Anyway, looking forward to it! Thanx!

You'll have the option to connect to each network as a whole, or part. Due to bandwith limitations some people are under, connecting to each network as a whole would kill your bandwith instantly.
As for file support? It supports anything you want it to support. Multi source downloads/resume? Of course. I mean, how could you live downloading a huge file off some 56k'er (sorry guys) and being stuck with him and having him get disconnected, and having to start all over again wondering if you'll get another connection.
Oh almost forgot, no....NO.....AHH, no spyware. God no. This project is 100% opensource, once it's finished. I will also be posting new ideas I have for P2P filesharing so all you g33ky c0ders can use them in your own projects, due to the fact I have limited time to program. I would like to see how other people implement the ideas in to their own master peices.
Long live P2P filesharing. :bling

Thanx, man!
2 last questions, if you can :
How does it connect to the Chat/IM apps? Is it like Trillian?
Does it have an integrated Media manager/player?
Also, I hope it forces ppl to share, since I HATE leeches!
Iīm really curious, since I have tried practically all P2P apps and still havenīt found one that satisfies me completely (I use KaZaA w/ Diet Kaza, Blubster and SoulSeek).

Well since the sites not going to be up for a few more days I thought I'd give you guys an inside scoop on most the feature Swapciety is going to include. Now, before you click the link, there's something you must know:
This list is NOT all of the features. Thank you, come again. :)
http://www.swapciety.com
I just typed it up in Word. Probably missing some of the features, but I think I got most of the important ones.

It does enforce a 1 slot minimum for sharing. You can adjust the bandwith allowed for this slot though.
You could say the implementation of the IM's is like Trillian. But there are some additions also. :)

This sounds pretty promising......but I was wondering, could you implement where it could connect to some content rich networks like eDonkey, OpenNap, and OverNet? Then it WOULD REALLY kick ass!

Sounds cool, but what are you going to do when the bigger networks that have closed protocols, start getting after you? Also, how does it connect to kazaa (fasttrack)? Is it just port scanner like that other program, KaZearch?

If the bigger networks come after me, and cut off my connection, screw them. That means they don't care about anyone that uses P2P. And personally, if they don't want users connecting from my network, adding more content. Screw'em.
The connections to each network differ alot. So I implemented them kinda like Trillian implemented all the IM's. You connect to each network with full support for all search/share options. Each network has it's own connection window, and login info.

Sounds cool but I hope the client is able to connect to such networks as, fasttrack and WinMX's network. They are closed protocols like jabba|xtra said

Yes you'll beable to search for, and share ogg files.
About blubster....I've crammed alot of connections in to this beast already. I've got all the main ones. If I add more, they will be in later releases.

Can swapceity's own network share mp3 files that are the same, but with different tags? I.E. it generates a hash/crc only from the actually mp3 data, excluding id3v1/v2 & lyrics3 v1/v2 & and any other crap there.. Im my opinion, that would be a great advance in mp3 file sharing, as i can edit my files id3 tags without having an impact on the file sharing.
Actually i think WinMX 3.x already does this, as it groups together mp3s of different sizes.

HolyLiaison
September 10th, 2002, 02:05 AM
If you would have read the complete thread (or the site) you would know that it's in very early alpha stages. Alot of the features have not been coded yet. There for it will not be released for quite awhile. Coding is going well though. So it could be released sooner than expected. I'm just posting here looking for support, and some help/ideas from people.
Anyways, hope this awnsers your question.

(like WinMx)
2. Multiple textboxes? Better than the above as you don't need to clear the box and press search again
3. Just the one text box where you seperate your terms with a special character sequence?
Don't like 1. but at least it's better than Kazaa.
Right now it's setup with one text box, using seperate terms. But I dunno if I like it. I might resort to multiple text boxes. Or something completely different.

How are the terms seperated in your current system? "-" would work, noone searches for that.
If I want an album, this feature would be great.
I'm using " | " to seperate search terms right now.
I might change it alot tho...example:
You want the new Korn CD "Untouchables" at 196kbps?
[Artist, Album, Bit Rate] | [Artist, Album, Bit Rate] etc.

Yeah I was thinking about that...or using the search form in my last post, but have it pop up sepearte windows for each search.

By the way, for all of you that are wondering about a beta release date should expect to see a beta sign up form on the web site in December. The private beta should be released in Jan/Feb sometime. All beta testers will have to sign a confidentiality agreement and mail it to me with your signature. Each private beta will have it's own siganture which will allow me to find out if someone leaks it to the public. Which will NOT happen. Anyways, development has sped up quite a bit with the help from friends.
There will be a new web design up soon also, using the new Mod Works Group LCC website engine (Maquinas (http://www.modworksgroup.com/maquinas/)). This will also be the base for the Swapciety community site. The crew from Ramped.com (http://www.ramped.com) will be powering the redesign. Which is really exciting because they are THE best. One of their most popular sites is Deskmod (http://www.deskmod.com), a desktop customization website. Well, that's all for now. If you have any questions please feel free to join us in IRC @

btw, with all these programs piled into one, wont it become kinda bloated? that wouldnt be a problem for most peeps, but some peeps im sure are still running on 64mb, or even 32 mb of ram. maybe you could create a system where it loads stuff only when needed. IE it wouldnt load the cd burner when you first log on. kinda like roxio does with ez cd creator platnum 5. it pops up with a menu and you select what you wanna do then it loads the program(s) neccesary. just an idea.

Swapciety is plugin based. You'll only download the plugins you want. If you want a Instant Messanger, you only download those plugins. The install file (the plugin engine) is only going to be around 1meg. So no worries about bloat ware. Plus, the plugins aren't big either. Each one averages around 300-400k. The Media Player on the other hand will be kind of big. But that's because it's going to contain alot of features everyone uses daily.

Ok that kida sux that it dosen't connect to the entire network. maybe could (at least for crappy gnutella) not allow outer networks to serch swapcity users. I know sharing is important but I mean fucking genutella takes up so much bandwidth. make shure that it shares with atlest one network and if that means SwapCity o well. at least SwapCity would be just this incredable prog.

Sorry, but the way the site works requires the file to be a .txt file. This will all be changed once the portal is finished. (Very Soon)
But for right now you'll have to use a Internet Explorer compliant browser. :mellow

Getting my FT plugin to connect to FastTrack took alot of reverse engineering. It took me about 6 months to get it right. Hench the time gap of me starting the program, and me publicly announcing it. So no, I'm not Neo from the Matix. I'm just a looser with alot of time on my hands. lol

The beta sing-up will take place on the Swapciety Portal once it's finished. Which should be soon. There will also be prizes given away in our IRC chat room once I get the IRC server up and running. Which shouldn't be that far off either.
I also have to get the skin SDK ready for release, so people can start working on skins.

This is not vaporware. I know that's easy to say, no one has to beleive me if they don't want to, cause I don't really care. I made this for my self basically. So if you don't give two sh*ts, don't bother me, you'll just slow me down even more.
Am I semi new to programming? Yes.
Did I slack off quite a bit? Yes.
Am I the only on working on this project? Yes.
Besides all that, I moved. Didn't have a computer for 6 months. Then I lost internet access for a while. So I couldn't keep any one updated, and I couldn't work on Swapciety. Did I lose intrest in Swapciety? To tell you the truth, yes. There is alot going on in my life right now that I consider more important. Which is why development has slowed. That doesn't mean I wont finish it. It just means it's going to take longer. I am going to get the P2P portal up before Swapciety, so atleast I'll beable to contribute something to the P2P scene for now.
Now, if you want to resume flamming me, or presume it's vaporware, go right ahead. Didn't mean to interupt you.

I don't expect shit from ya! And by that I mean you have a life and you can choose to do whatever you want in it.
Even if your app just goes un-finished and is dubbed vaporware, who cares?
You haven't been spamming a vaporware app and all the other shit the true vaporware app's have done.
So in my book, you're fine. Finish it or not either way it doesn't matter. :wings

Ok, so I came across a little harsh, but I have seen too many projects recently that have sounded great, but come out so late that nobody gives a rats ass (I shouldn't need to name examples)
Like CCS said, its your life, do what you want, I'll leave you alone on it

I understand that, I've been waiting for a few to come out that haven't delivered. And it makes me mad,. but I also understand they have lives, and stuff to do that's more important than programming.
Then, there are the select few that are just fakes all out. Most are pretty easy to pick out from the crowd though.
Sorry I kinda went over board on my post too, I just get tired of it. Which makes me lose intrest even more.

I also believe that it is not vaporware for the main reason that he hasn't spammed it at all. What kinda hoax would it be if he wasn't trying to convince everybody that it is real and is going to replace everything else out there. I personally think that if he does finish it, his progroam will have users similar to the users that trillian has for the same reasons. Anyways, good luck on your prog. holyliaison!!!
BTW, if you want to register at the swapciety forums, go here: http://swapciety.com/forum/index.php
Right now there aren't much users so we need some more consistent posters like phalkon with his 14 posts a day.

It's not the programming I'm worried about. I just need to get the web portal up. That's the only thing left really. And I have help for that. Should be done soon.

Portal will be up VERY soon. Maquinas (the portal engine we're going to use) is almost complete. So things are going to speed up around here very soon. Yeah I know I've said that a thousand times, but I'm busy in real life. What the fu*k can I do about that? I need money too. :P

I encourage you all to go and at least check out the forums. It is set up real nice and so far there is a nice group of people. I am sure you will have a better chance of becoming a beta tester for swapceity if you are active at the swapciety forums. For those of you that don't know what swapciety is, well, skim throught the 6 pages of this thread. I hope to see you there!!!

You're right. I did promise all of that. But like a lot of other people real life catches up to you fast. I'm not going to sit here and make excuses for my self, I'll strait out say I promised lots of things I couldn't hold up to. Including the time frame I gave my self.
Swapciety is real. Is it going to be out anytime soon? No. Why? Because I have priorities right now that I need to get straitened out before I can dedicate time to Swapciety.

Because some of the program controls are going to be built in to the website. I haven't worked on Swapciety in about 2 months now due to "real life" interfering. And I doesn't look like I have any free time soon either. I just want to get up a nice site so when I do have enough time to finish Swapciety I wont have to bother with the website aspect. I wont have alot of time to work on the site either which is why I'm asking for help. ;)

i was interested in your program....6 months ago.
but now i've lost interest.....first why do we need it?
shareaza connects to all the networks you are going to connect to except fasttrack (which is doomed anyway)
and on top of that, my downloading habits have changed and the only network i use anymore is IRC most of the time.
i wish you the best of luck in your programming, as well as in your real life..(i have one of those too!)

For the sake of proving that you aren't only full of hot air, SHOW US A(N) ALPHA/BETA OF ANY KIND ! I personally think you will never finish, let alone create this app, since it's been forever and we have seen absolutely NOTHING. Stop lolligagging and GIVE US PROOF !

Your screenshot proves nothing. For over a year people have been waiting for more than bogus screenshots and promises of the future. Enough already! Either come up with a WORKING client or stop wasting people's time and let this thread die. And I'm sorry but your excuse about life interfering doesn't cut it. Hey shit happens to everybody and it's something you should have considered before hyping it or even starting it. You made some pretty big claims and didn't deliver so NOBODY is ever going to take anything you say seriously until you can. If you can't or won't then stop blowing smoke up our asses.

Hey dumbass, if you'd acually look at the screenshot you'd see FOUR seperate programs running.
1. Internet Explorer
2. EGN (The IRC Looking Client)
3. Winamp
4. Swapciety (The grey app)
Thanks for the comment though.

Ya know I am about 2 seconds from closing this thread and if you try shit like that again I will. An icon on a desktop doesn't mean a damn thing and you know it so don't go get your underwear in a bunch when someone calls you on it. You caused this by promising things and not carrying through so you have nobody to be mad at but yourself. Either come up with a working program or just admit you're jerking our chains. It's as simple as that. There are too many legitimate developers working their butts off with viable products to waste time with you and your screenshots.

To save yourself a headache HolyLiaison, just release an alpha, whatever you have finished thus far.
This will shut up most of the naysayers.
We don't care if it is alpha or beta or whatevr just release SOMETHING (No screenshots please)
If you cannot or will not do that, then i welcome the closing of this thread. And will also believe you never had anything to begin with.
And please don't go running off like all of the others who had not completed something, we don't want that. Yes we are rough on people who claim to have made a p2p network, just because of all the bullshit that goes with it, never completed, long over due etc.
In a way you got our hopes up, the P2P community loves ANYTHING that is new, we love trying new things, and you have kinda let us down in a way. I (we?) had more faith in you then probably anyone else, standing behind you for months and now it is time to pay up.
We are not saying we do not want you as a part of this community, we do. What we are saying is, release something, or just move on to other projects or whatever interests you.
BEST regards.
