Hi, I have recently obtained a matroska(MKV) file named Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban DVDrip ENG.mkv. I have tried everything to play this file, I got all the latest matroska packs and I have tried playing it in every media player I have. I know MKV is a 'container' and not a codec, but do I need to extract the files from it? Or could this file be bogus or corrupt or something? If anyone could verify that this file works, it can be found thru http://search.suprnova.org and search for azkaban(only 609mb). If anyone can or has gotten this file to work plz reply and help me out. ~thx

you can also use this link as a shortcut

First of all remove the filename from you post. Secondly here is a website that will tell you how to get the file to play:

http://ld-anime.faireal.net/guide/mkv-eng

Edit: Sorry I did not completely read your post Media Player Classic plays the file and so does Nero Showtime. I had no luck playing it with VLC or BS Player.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but core media player player should handle these file formats
mkv : Generally video files, as well those containing audio ( movies ) or video only
mka : Audio only files
mks : Matroska stream containing any subtitles stream

If the file is still not working, try downloading the "real alternative v1.22" or greater. Then, use Media Player Classic (comes with the real alternative download) to play the file.
