it would be nice to make a OpenNap Server and make napster connect to the server instead of server.napster.com. Why did Shawn sell it? I thought he made it into a Paid Service before Roxio bought it.

You can use a program called Napigator, that basically allows the Napster program to connect to any OpenNap server. I don't know if the project is still active or not.

heh, just checked it and it works for me. Google "NG208.exe". that is the download file for the program.

no, it just connects to opennap servers, and even that is a poor substitute for what (the old)napster once offered

If all you want is a simply program to get mp3s, use Ares Lite (http://www.download.com/3000-2166-10288173.html?part=83307&subj=dlpage&tag=button) or the Regular Ares (http://www.aresgalaxy.org/setup_ares.exe). OpenNap's offerings are poor at best.
Ares gives you the speed AND probably 90% of the selection you had with the old Napster.

3.5 down sounds like an at home cable connection. If that is the case, I wouldn't be trying to run an OpenNap server if I were you. You might be able to pull it off though if you keep it small and people don't mind it being very slow.

I set the User Max of My Server to 50. Is That Good?

I really don't know for sure how small you want it, test it for a while and see what happens. Justkeep in mind you won't be able to do much if you max out your cable connection. Perhaps someone with experience in running one of these servers will better know the limit.
