Lets say you install a program on a Windows 2000 computer, And you uninstall the program by deleteing the directory in the windows program files folders but you DO no unistall it with the "add/remove programs" option in the windows control panel menu. If you do this the program will still be listed in the "add/remove programs" even though its not really on the computer.. So how can I remove this name of the program (whatever it may be for example adobe photoshop or macromedia dreamweaver...or whatever for examples sake). I've done this and I cant seem to find a way to get it out of the list (even know all the files and shortcuts and everything have been deleted manually by me)
Any help from the Windows experts is much appreciated..!
thanks in advance!

I am not sure if this works for just Windows XP, but you could try to just select remove and sometimes if it doesn't find the program it removes itself. The only other option I know of, is to reinstall and properly uninstall it.

no that dosent work, but thanks for the reply, When i click the "remove" the button goes down but nothing happens..I can tell the program is not there anymore (even know i deleted it) because it dosent show the filesize to the right of it. But on all the other programs i want in the menu it shows a filesize (for example 14.5 megs or whatever)
thanks for trying to help, anyone else know what will work

it doesnt have its own uninstaller in the folder itself ?? If the program is in the ad/remove section, it always removed for me, and sometimes says to be fully uninstalled. IT needs a reboot. I had it once say in use or something was missing from it to be removed. But you did restart it after you delete it and deleted it out of the trashcan as well?

Use JV16 power tools. You can manually edit your add/remove programs menu.

Is there a way to do it manually without installing other software?

JV16 Powertools are small and very powerful. If you are scared to install, don't be. They are highly rated and freeware. If you just don't want to, well it's your problem. You can install them and just uninstall them when you are done. They do have a lot more tools than just that though, so you might even want to look at some of the other things included.

you can delete the entry from add/remove programs manually with regedit:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall
