Oooh a mystery! I feel like Agatha Christie...only hotter...and male...
Here's the set up...
I have a G4 Powerbook
Running OSX Panther 10.3.4
Verizon online DSL
I'm in Brooklyn, NY
Bandwidth test showed 1111.7 kbps
DSL modem is a Westell 2200
Connected to an AirPort Extreme
Running Azureus
Downloading from SuprNova.org
Firewall is off
Ports 6881 - 6889 open
The "KB/s global max upload speed" Ive tried 10KB/s - 110KB/s
The Upload speed changes accordingly but the Download speeds stay the same
There was a "NAT error" on the "port test" during the Configuration Wizard, but I don't know what that means...
I never really go over 5 or 6 KB/s on my downloads...
Screenshots 01, 02, & 03 were taken at 10min. 15min. and 20min. respectively...
That 9.5 on screenshot 03 is rare...
Didn't last long either... (painful reminders of inadequacy)
There you have it Scooby-Doo and Scrappy too...
Below are some screenshots... If there is anything else in the info department needed...
Don't hesitate to demand...
Thank-you for your help...

I have heard Verizon blocks BT ports to kill the download and uploads.
It works fine for me and I had to plow through innane router settings and stuff.
I am going to pm you an address for a cool group in the vein of suprnova but they are
paticularly sensitive to leeching so the only thing they ask when using thier page and tracker is at least upload over half of what you download. This is a good payoff as they have good files before suprnova and because they arent leeching en-masse like suprnova
you get extra good speeds. This is not the problem per se with suprnova I still get some decent speeds off of it but leechers do affect download performance as you need plenty of people uploading to get good speeds. Be warned though read thier faq as they use diffrent ports for thier downloads to keep Isp's from blocking them. I got quite a few decent Telecine's (yes not mislabeled TS but TC) off of there.

I cant see for myself why you might have problems as it all looks in order but Malicious might have an idea. I can tell you now though there appears to be nothing to suggest you would have problems except for the verizon one

Well,
first of all, you should find out what your upload is... then set the upload to about 80 percent or so (hell, I use about 66% myself and get awesome speed).
Your problem is that almost no one is sharing the file that you are downloading. Find something with more sources, or just wait... perhaps it is new and people have just started sharing it. It is also possible that it is just not popular... I did a suprnova search and I think I know what you are sharing, and it has only 3 and 3 sharing it... your speed is going to be shitty.

There was supposed to be 8 seeds on the first one and 110 on the second when I started them...
I just went back to check and now the first one has 3 seeds and the second has 129 seeds...
I picked these two to see what difference the seed thing makes...
Find out what my upload is?
you mean the bandwidth test?
1111.7 kbps
Set my "global upload max" to 888?

As well use torrent spy to check the torrent link to make sure there are enough seeders and downloaders. That one url I gave you in pm is not the only one there are a few groups like that. Suprnova is such a good resource because its one of the only ones you dont have to register for..but that also brings other probs

That is your download... your upload is a different number... I am guessing that your upload is the industry average of about 256 or so... therefore your max upload would be 30K or so and you should set it to 20 - 24K or so. This is just a guess though.
Go to http://www.dslreports.com/stest and check your speed there... it will give you a nice infographic such as this... then base your upload off of this #:

i want to know all the information about everything
the other thing though with verizon blocking ports is untrue
if you are behind a router *network* then u have to open various ports.
like i said verizon would not block ports because those ports need to be open for many reasons, business related too

I pay too much for it... but it may be worth it.
BTW: Bookmansour... that is just a shitty undersourced torrent... I tried it out and there are five people sharing it (and those people don't have very big uploads, and I am guessing one of them is you). you are either going to have to wait or find it somewere else.

I think she is kidding, but you never know with cj ;)
According to Google's calculator (http://www.google.com/search?q=131+kbps+to+KB%2Fs&sourceid=mozilla-search&num=20) , you have an upload of about 16.375 KB/sec. You should probably set your upload to about 13KB/sec. or less if you so desire. As I have stated previously, this particular torrent just isn't going to go very quickly though...
Good luck sir!

You probably don't really have a problem other than your upload being set too high so that you do not have any extra bandwidth, which chokes your speed. If you found a torrent with more sources and such, you should be able ot get a respectable speed of at least 100KB/sec or so...

Hey bookmansour, if your looking to find the movie and TV series of Logan's "blur" I found them on Winmx and are actually not that hard to get. I'm sure it would be much faster than what your getting it at right now anyways. Sci Fi has a big following in Mx.
Sorry this doesnt help you BT problem. It still remains a mystery. Maybe its being blocked in some way.

Okay, Bookman. How have you forwarded the ports, per se? If you're running Panther, you should check your setup to make sure you're not running off a DHCP IP. I'm guessing that the equipment assigns you an IP via DHCP, now your problem is, is that if your computer is not using the LAN IP that the ports are forwarded to then you won't get the speeds you want. In fact, I think this is the major problem with port forwarding and people that don't understand how the system works. All it does is redirect traffic to ONE IP, not to all the IP's on the network.
I've read that it's an Airport Extreme base station, yes? I've got one of those myself. Okay, you must do this.
Go to network, choose Wireless then choose Manual settings.
IP Address: 10.0.1.201
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Router: 10.0.1.1
DNS Servers: 10.0.1.1
Now what you do is go to the AEBS Config client, and then choose Public and Private ports for that IP address. You must also take into account that the AEBS is not designed for high end use but as a simple AP and that it can only forward up to 35 ports. But if you forward just 6881-6889 and then any other filesharing ports you may use, you will get awesome speeds. I've just gotten 500kb/s off BitTorrent. If you need any more help, PM me.

My piece of advice would be to set port 80(default one for explorer). Beware! I would only do it just to check that my other ports are filtered from my ISP. I did that a while ago because of the shitty speeds I had with emule. You can't imagine what happened to my speeds when I set port 80 for TCP and UDP.
Ok, maybe this is not the case for you because I think your upload is set too high. I have 128kbs upload(16 kB/s) and I like to set it to 5! when I am downloading.(ofcourse I change it to 13 when I'm seeding :). I use Azureus too and a big fun of it. currently using 2.1.0.0 with the latest CVS but I don't think that would anything to your case.
Now, this is my advice. Azureus allows unlimited download if you set your upload at 5 kB/s upload or more. Do this and if it works try adding a kilobyte each time to see if you get better results. Stop when your download starts decreasing. If this tip doesn't work use the port 80 ONLY to see if the port you are currently using is filtered by yor ISP.

Poullos:
For one I use Safari for a browser so the "explorer" thing is lost to me...
(Side note browser kinda souds like brazier)...ha ha
Where was I? Oh,... my upload is now set to 13, which is a little less than 80% of my total upload...
I don't even know what CVS is...
Thanks for the advice on upload settings,...
I have been setting my upload to "unlimited" when I seed 'cause I download one file at a time and
"what the fuck do I care when I'm done... let some other people enjoy"
I am glad for ALL your advice...
I'm up to 25KB/s whch is a HUGE difference from 5KB/s...
What kind of comp do you use?
Is it Mac?

I am glad things got better for you bookmansour!
Sorry for mentioning CVS: these are the day-by-day testing editions for open-source programs like azureus. By now they are in B(uilt)20 and they try to correct some bugs from official version. Beware, since these CVS are not stable because programers work on different parts of the source and the code is not efficiently tested.
Since things are working forget port 80. That was optional.
I am on P4 2.4 GB PC, 512 DDR Ram 266, seagate parachuta 80 GB primary hard disk and 120 GB seagate 8MB cache hard disk. Currently working on XP pro SP1 with al the latest updates, Zonealarm pro 4.0, Norton antivirus 2003. My connection is ADSL 1024/128 (Download/Upload).
My speeds vary if its night or day, but on average I get 50-70 with azureus when having 3-4 fairly seeded torrents. My worst part is the upload since I have to share a lot afterwards to cover my ratio.

Nolanistic is definately on the right track. You can play all you want with your upload at a later date, but let us first of all slove the problem. You said that you had a NAT error, but didn't know what that meant. Read what a NAT is here (http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/N/NAT.html). If you are bored, you can read why it is important here: http://azureus.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/PortForwarding .
Other than that, take Nolanistic up on his offer, although it will be nice if you kept the discussion on the forums for us to all learn by. PMs are limited to about half a word in length as well!

I just PM'd a thank you...
All info used is still on this thread...
The Airport "port forwarding" helped and got me up to 25KB/s from 5KB/s...
And my health is now green...
I haven't hit the 100KB/s mark but I don't know how common that is to begin with...
Should I worry about the NAT error or did I take care of that with the Airport jive?...
Malicious Intent
June 19th, 2004, 04:16 PM
If it is green then the NAT is all set. As for the 100kb/s, just keep waiting. It will get quicker and quicker. 100k is quite common. If it is slow this time, it is probably the torrent. If you are green, then it is not because of your end. Now start playing around with that upload!
Set your upload to unlimited, watch what it goes up to, then set the limit below it. That will save you trying to find out your max upload.
Well done Nolanistic.
