I registered for Zeropaid forums for the sole purpose of posting this message. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH BITTORRENT OR ANY OF THE OTHER CLIENTS. I have tried the original client, the updated 3.something client, the shadow experimental client, and the Azureus client. Absolutely NONE and I repeat NONE of these programs work as advertised. I have gotten links from various sources over the months and most times the message is the same: UNABLE TO FIND TRACKER (whatever that means). When a connection is made your fastest download wil be in the area of 0.05 kB/sec. and that craps out after 10 minutes and the connection NEVER restarts...EVER. :ass

Before you ask, I HAVE read the nonsense about firewalls and point systems and leaving the client open after completion.I don't have a firewall or router and I leave everything running for days at a time. IT DON'T WORK!

Let me spell it out for you. I have a Windows '98 machine that has no firewall or any of the other crap. NONE OF THAT APPLIES TO ME. So, the moral of the story is: Bittorrent simply does not work. It is a plot by those who offer the program to steal files off of your computer without giving you ANYTHING in return. The 6 meg that you do manage to get will be uploaded 500 times and you will never get another bit of information on your machine.

if you don't have a high speed connection, a fast computer with a lot of space, and a reliable tracker site bt will not work

Did you try going to any actual torrent website, or did you just Kazaa some torrent files? If you went to any of the torrent sites, the tracker shouldn't be down unless for maintainence, but you probably never checked, and you probably never had anything configured on your client properly, so it gave you a crap download. Or maybe your ISP is monitoring the incoming port for BitTorrent. Do something that will help us all. Think.

i download linux distros and other big files over bittorrent. it helps people distribute content without sucking up all their bandwidth, and as I've witnessed, can be even faster than you knew your internet connection went (2Mbps)

bitornado 0.3.2. www.bittornado.com works great when you have the ports 6881-6999 TCP forwarded to your internal LAN IP address on your router. If your ports are not forwarded and hence you cannot recieve incoming connections your download speeds are going to SUCK.

I am still having probs with BT and Azureus...
I can't seem to get my downloads to rise above 5 or 6 KB/s...
And yes I've added and opened the ports, shut down the firewall and "throttled my bandwith"
I have tried to ask for help on ZP, and searched many past threads but people DO remain a little elitest and treat you like a leper when your trying to figure this out...
I'm glad it works for a lot of you and only wish it would work for me...
If I'm to expect download speeds higher than 5 or 6 KB/s then this BT business is a big thumbs down to me...

I don't know what your problem is but I download always at least 30kb/s and average 100kb/s and ive gone as high as 500kb/s. Slow I think not, their has to be something your dooing wrong.

Bookmansour - open up a new thread away fom this BS and I am sure people will try and help. As you say, being a mac user limits you a bit. Install and use azureus, as it can be common ground. Run through my guide and all the other help threads.
Post the "health" colour. Also tell us everything that you have installed, the exact setup of you internet connection and network, all the hardware used (make and model), your ISP and anything else you think we could use.

There are a few unsolved cases laying around, but that is because they are a mystery, not because they are ignored by any sort of elitism. Except Notbob :p (j/k hehe). Without being there, it is a nighmare to solve!

bookmansour, some torrents are slow. are you choosing a file with a lot of seeds? Is the site your choosing updated often? How long do you run BT and what is your upload speed?

BT starts out slow until you have a chunk of the file to share. Once you start uploading, your download speed should start snowballing, but this can take awhile sometimes.

To my good fortune, and to your (apparently) bad luck, the software on my machine does not have an attitude detector. It either works or it doesn't. Microsoft Works works. Bram's Bittorrent doesn't.

I have nothing between me and the internet other than Sygate firewall. I don't forward any ports, or configure anything to be any different from the defeault setting in the client (Bittornado).

The rule says until your ratio is at least 1:1. That means to upload the size you downloaded. Anything more than that and you are not a leecher..

Sometimes the trackers are down because of verious problems, sometimes you get low download speeds because it's an old file, but i must say that Azureas is the best

Remember what I said yesterday bookman? All you need to do to avoid leeching is at least upload half of what you download. To do that, after your download finishes you just leave it running in your client until you see you have at least given half back. Some groups are more anal than others but usually they are cool with people who at least give half back.
Did any of that stuff I pm'ed help?

Though you might have noticed every site and tracker has thier own rules.
F-list is generally 1-1 ratio but they dont mind like I said as long as you give at least half back.
When you join these groups never be afriad to ask other members and if worse comes to worse they will tell you when you might be leeching. As most sites have thier own rules its not a bad ting to ask and be sure you are following tracker ettiquete.

i am sceptic about your understanding. bt is designed to work brilliant for a limited period of time per ressource. The resource is a big file and a new file. Then to torrent comes over you like a short summer rain. bt does not guarantee sustained delivery over a long period of time. So if the creation and hosting of your target is e.g. six month old, you can be sure, that the tracker will be down or something similar. So "old torrents are no torrents".
You should reinvent your usability strategy.
