Awwww man!!! It feels GREAT to finally get a DVD Rom drive. These things are really cool, I've been ripping movies all day today. Best purchase decision for my computer that I've ever made, I'd recomend anyone deciding whether to get a DVD Rom or not to do so, and RIGHT AWAY!!!

Somehow I doubt that DVD movies can be directly copied. At least not without some sort of software help. I wonder if there will be a cloneDVD..

DVD's are protected with CSS (cant remember what it stands for at the moment) - which means you need something along the lines of DeCSS to get them off the DVD.

you can rip to the hard drive fairly effortlessly, into avi format on your computer. The difficulty comes in disc to disc copying of a copyrighted dvd.

Even if you don't have a DVD rom, you can still encode a DVD movie into avi format easily, then you can split the files up into smaller parts, and then encode into mpeg2/1 format (depending on VCD/SVCD) then burn to normal CDRs with Nero

I think you can get DVD copying software, but it proberbly doesn't work or makes crap output.

Try Viodomi for encoding http://www.vidomi.com/ It is the best so far and easyencode is pretty good as well http://www.fladivision.com/ A good resource for learning the art of DVD to AVI http://www.digital-digest.com/

CSS=Content Scrambling System

It's intended to discourage people from making perfect digital copies to another medium or from bypassing the region control mechanism. It's like Macrovision in VHS.

Check these site for DeCSS :
