Seems every-time I download a large file using Bit Torrent it ends up being corrupted. It's been suggested on some bit torrent sites to open up various ports to allow the program to run freely. How do you open up ports? Thanks.

are you using a software firewall or a router
most software firewalls I have used, I havent had an issue with them
Routers, can you usally open ports with the ip address of the router. Look on the cd that came with it
With bittorent, I dont think it could be your firewall because I havent opened any ports and I am gettting good speed. A lot of them have corrupt files but have you tried supernova.org
best of luck to you

You should not get corrupt files even if your bittorrent client cannot receive incoming connections.
Are you waiting until it says "complete" ? Until it says that you don't have all the file.
Perhaps you are using a buggy client. Try a different one.

I'm using a client called ABC (Yet Another Bit Torrent Client). It's the only one I've found that works like a regular P2P. I've download several large files from SuperNova and they inevitably end up being corrupted. Seems to work fine on small files though. Does anyone know of a BT client that is easy to use and reliable? Thanks.

I've never got a corrupt file from BT...
I think you need to open ports 6881-6999 (UDP) or something... read here.

I use ABC too and I've not had any problems. If they are corrupt files you might try finding a different tracker?
Maybe look at this site for other torrent sites: http://www.topp2p.com/torrents.php

Just remembered. I run an anonymizer program as well. Would this cause a problem? I can configure it to direct connect. How do I set my external IP address correctly? Thanks.
