I will have to start from the beginning. I had some major problems with my computer last week so unfortunately my only option left was to wipe everything clean and return my computer to it's original state. That left me to download all of my software over again. I originally had a previous version of Shareaza downloaded. When I downloaded the newest version, that is where my problems began. For ex. when I am running Shareaza and IE at the same time, my computer crashes. Even when Shareaza is running alone it crashes. I cannot figure out why. Can anyone help?

did you exit all windows before installing?? I think if it had a crash it may be reported on the forums by the team or a fix would come out to install in the directory of it.

yea the new shareaza has some issues, it makes my comp freakins slow
i have a modest comp p4 1.7 256RD on win XP pro, but i never had any trouble with any of the previous versions

i tried reinstalling shareaza but in vain

funny thing is that it wont show up on the task manager, all readings will be normal, but even after i have exited shareaza, the comp remains slow, ultimately hanging

ii have stopped using shareaza for now, and system is back to normal

I have an XP operating system, 1.5 GHz Pentium, 768 Ram
I don't understand what causes the crashing. When I used the older version I had no problems. I haven't looked yet, but is it possibly to get the old version somewhere. I never had a problem with it.

hmm well i ahve been rowsing shareaza forums, and other ppl are facing similar problems,

ZAP 5 has issues with shareaza, and u will have to allow tcp/udp incoming/outgoing on the prot shareaza is using

i think in my case freeze up problems were coz of the new zonealarm

I have the regular, newest Zone Alarm installed on my computer. Is there a way to get these two to get along and interact properly?

if ur having freeze up problems, and ur running znealarm 5, this mite help

How do I configure ZoneAlarm Pro/Plus Edition to allow Shareaza connection?
Step 1 Go to Firewall > Internet Zone Security

Step 2 Set the Internet Zone Security to "High"

Step 3 Click Custom

Step 4 Select the checkboxes "Allow outgoing UDP ports", "Allow incoming UDP ports", "Allow outgoing TCP ports", and "Allow Incoming TCP ports"

Step 5 In the dialog boxes presented at the bottom on this screen enter the port from the Shareaza connections page. (They should all be the same)

OK, First I uninstalled Zone Alarm 5 last night. I think ZA made an update in that you don't lose your internet connection by just removing it in the control panel like previous versions. I would still keep an install copy on the side just in case before removing. Anyway, Shareaza worked fine afterwards. Only problem is now I do not have a firewall. I am considering installing the Acronis firewall instead in hopes there are no problems because there other stuff is good and I am a little wary of all the negative reviews that the new ZA is getting on downloads.com. If I don't do that I might install the older versions of ZA and shareaza and hope for the best. I will post when I find the right choice. Does anyone have a link to the last version prior to ZA 5?

Here is the final output on my end. All I did was install the Sygate Firewall (yesterday I said Acronis...my bad). Shareaza 2.0 works fine with this firewall. I think it might even be a better product than ZA because it gives you more detailed information and tells you more information when someone is scanning your computer. This isn't the first time I have had problems with ZA. In the past I lost internet access when uninstalling it within the control panel. That was before I found out you had to follow a detailed uninstall procedure. Now everything is back to normal. (Just remember to keep a backup install copy of Zone Alarm if you decide to do this. I did not have a problem uninstalling the newest version in the control panel so maybe ZA tackled this problem from the past versions.)

try reinstalling it. It could also be your ram, or just a corrupt version. I think they had one on their websight that kept crashing so just try a different link.

There is no point to do that when the Sygate firewall causes no conflict with Shareaza and it seems to be a much better tool than ZA anyways. When I had ZA 5 installed with Shareaza 2.0 my computer crashed hard. With Sygate no problems which leads me to believe the conflict is with ZA 5.

I have zone alarm security suite 5.1.011.000 and it works fine with shareaza 2.0 i have a 2.8ghz processor intel celeron 512mb ram maybe it was just the way ur zone alarm was set. If that dont do anything just download a newer version of zonealarm see if that does anything. :wings

I had shareaza used to love it, now with version 2 I hate it. Crashes my PC within about 5 mins of startup. AND its nothing to dow with firewalls. I have Sygate, so dont expect getting rid of ZA to solve all your problems.

Until they sort it out Im using other filesharing software which all suck by comparison...
