I will always download regardless in order to find new artists. I am not going to go out and buy a cd for one song. But (and I have done this many times) if I find an artist that is talented and has alot of good stuff then I will buy some cds. I think 5 bucks is a good price for cds too :-) (That way I'm not completely broke afterward lol)

Even changing the retail price to $15 would be a welcome change.... but $10 would be great. ... and they would never make it $5.

5 to 7 bucks would be ok but i would rather downloaded it,there are not enough good songs on most albums just alot of filler songs the number of good songs on albums has dropped alot over the years so it's easier to just download the songs that you like.

If a cd from a band/singer I like would cost $5-$8 I will not bother to download it but would go and buy it, after all you won't get any better quality than the original.

See, I think this poll makes it obvious that internet piracy is the main reason sales are down. :;)
Kill Fasttrack and everyone will immediately go buy the latest production line butt wiggler, @ $23.95 (Sale! Save $2.50!).

uh have u even read the responses? It's not Mp3s an net piracy it's the insane prices they charge for Cds. Not to mention the shelf life for most of the bands that drop off ur MTV bandwagon. I think done the right way the net could've helped cd sales. But in all honesty this was bound to happen. I think this movemnt has been really great to help out consumers (like you)get fair prices if not we'll go to the net which hasn't been an option before. Also it's really good because i think its setting the foundation for the artists to have control over their music instead of the label owning all rights to it. I think it's also be cool to see some indie record labels make a splash in this. As for how much a cd should cost 8-9$ i think is fair as Caitlyn said.

Uh, have you even read my response? :;) Well then, read it again!

yes iread ur response and blinked because it didn't explain why u claim internet piracy is the reason for the drop in Cd sales. I put forth my credible reasons even then frog i don't see how u tie in this polls about cd PRICES to how net piracy is affecting cd sales. possibly think things over an makes better point :cross

Yes, I don't make a point.

The whole thing is absurd and makes no sense, yet the record companies hammer on about it time and time again.

If all p2p's were closed today (no small feat), would you rush out in the next few days to buy all the pop CD's you've been missing? Most likely not, yet The Industry seems to think if they keep packaging the same stuff again (under different "artist" names, of course) people are going to keep buying it. And when The People suddenly stop listening to the radio and get annoyed with baby this yeah that and search for proper tunes Rosen and co. don't get it and point left and right at net piracy and cd copying, instead of pointing at the eight people who write most songs and the 10:1 success ratios.
Therefore I was agreeing all along, just trying to poke fun with sarcasm. Cheers!

I think 7 dollars is resonable, that's what i'd be willing to pay if i had a choice :)

I had to read your first post twice dead_frog, then i thought maybe that was sarcasm. hehe.. then i read your second post :P

A CD where every song is good? If yes then 5-7 dollars sounds cool. If it's a CD with one or two good songs - like just about EVERY CD released today then I will continue my tradition of making my own CDs for about .30 cents a piece. Come to think of it 5-7 dollars is too much. .30 cents can't be beat by the recording industry.

unless I'm buying it direct from the band, and know that most/all of the $ is going into their pockets.

10dollars is a good price but I know that 5dollars will not be an option and major record labels want money

I think it should cost the same amount you pay at the market stalls in HK, or your friendly chinamans shop in your local chinatown, and that is about 5 but then again for this much you usually get few cds with many albums on or few movies.
The most i would ever pay for album i just had to have is 15.

$12.99 at most...$9.99 to $11.99 preferably. 2 CD sets should start at $16.99.

I think when you try and calculate the price of a CD you forget the cover art and the lyrics and increasingly the Enhanced CD content. I think for an Enhanced CD with some remixes, concert footage and stuff like that, 10 bucks is not too much.

As long as bands continue to not get fair royalties, I will continue to boycot CDs and recommend you do the same.

Okay then, the $64,000 question:
When bands DO finally get fair royalties, will you stop?
