P2P = piracy ?

Reading previous lines, its seems that P2P is definitly associated to piracy... it's sad when you imagine the number of legal things you can do when connecting people together !
There are great advances in picture sharing for instance with PixVillage (http://www.pixvillage.com) or with instant messenging and social networks...

I'm sure this view of thing will help the P2P to be respected as not being only a pirate technology.

Piracy is murder and robbery on the high seas, not copying tunes off people over the internet in a non violent fashion.

P2P allows us to hear music the big labels never want you to hear. Thanks to P2P, im addicted to trance. Can I get any where I live, nope.

P2P is a new way of distributing information. It is better than exiting radio and television broadcasting, and will only evolve into a better distribution medium for audio, video, software and anything else you can send down a fiber, dsl, cable or dialup line.

Well, don't get me wrong, p2p is a great way to connect people. But, let's be realistic here - how many people on ZP have NEVER used p2p to get a song for free?

Don't get me wrong, p2p is great, but realisticly speaking, p2p is mainly used for piracy. And there's no way we can hide that fact.

P2P can be used for other things then piracy. BitTorrent is used to distribute all kinds of demos and promo stuff. Programs can be distributed at a much lower cost then today. Information can be shared in such a way that censorship is impossible.

Look at it this way: You can use a ship to do piracy, but also to do trade and explore the world. Would one ban people from owning ship, since they are able to become a pirate with it?

All that make me say that P2P is just at is begining, there a lot a things to do with it !!

If the RIAA ran the rum and slave trade....
1. The ships would not be able to leave port unless they had a contract that gave the RIAA 90% of any future gains.
2. New markets would be forbidden, and any new market activity would cause you to loose your ship.
3. Each Bottle of rum, good, ect. Would have to have a serial number. Unsold goods, spoiled goods, wrecked ships would be counted as losses from piracy.
4. As ship owner, you would not own a ship or it's cargo on the ship. You would own a license to transport the ship. If you break your ship, you have to pay for it over and over again.
5. Your ship (That you do not own) is only for your use. If you give free samples of the cargo, you have to pay for the cargo, even if you dilute the cargo with water so there is no loss of the product.
6. Cargo that reproduces is unauthorized and subject to RIAA pentalty and subject to a walk on the plank or britney spears music, or what ever music is deemed awful.
7. You may dress up like captains and pirates, but we own the likeness and hold the rights.

Only if you have access to the information. As more information is produced, so will the need to turn it off.
