I was wondering, do any of you know how much of the profit made by a record label off a single cd purchase actually makes it to the artist in the end, or know where i can find some documentation on it?

yeah.. five cents to a dollar depending if your alanis morrissette which gets a dollar.. THink of it this way.. Your lawyer, publicist, agent, then you divide it by your band members... Its very small, and anyone who you sign a contract with.. like aerosmith.. everytime they perform a sertain amount of songs, they have to pay royalties to the recording company that screwed them, which was their manager.. Managers make money by screwing artist out of money.. They get some thrown back at them.

I would be willing to 'donate' like £5 directly to an artist whose work i had downloaded and enjoyed. Artists could join a network like Soulseek and get feedback & some renumeration...
