Their was a time when i downloaded things not because i would ever use them or even wanted them but because i could. The feeling of knowing you can get what ever you want at your finger tips is intoxicating. My question is have others come to the conclusion that you are or were a dl addict and if so explain. The only reason i am not one anymore is because im poor and got bitchslapped back to 56kps. I have over 1000 movies i will never watch hundreds of of hours in music tons of pictures ;) and the list goes on. But now that i have come to the relization of being a addict i feel free not bound down waiting for the my next fix always wanting and never needing that was my problem just wanted to say i have been dl free for over a half year now ^_^. ps excuse the spelling

Well with music yeah I download tons. I like to sample alot of stuff and then keep what I like. I will download maybe 200 songs in a sitting and then they will chill on the drive until I have alot of free time to go and listen to them all. Now that I have newsgroups I am downloading maybe up to 2 gigs of music a day and maybe 3-4 svcd movies a day.I used to fill my 40 gig drive in about 3 months or so, now that I am using the groups I fill this think weekly and then throw out the junk.

I dont consider it an addiction, just a hobby. I consider an addiction something that has a negative impact on your life.

I only download what I want. I will admit to downloading something for someone else to see if I can. Especially if that person has tried and failed. I guess that is a bit sad, but not an addiction. I don't have to download anything to get through the day.

a certain level of self-control is required with any type of decision making in our daily lives not do something too much nor not doing "it" at all. the answer lies somewhere in between where you take you're time to find a moderate answer that accomadates the "whole" situation without taking too much away from one thing or giving too much to another.

I got 1800+ songs, and 50 movies.

Watched and listened to them all, and i like them all.
Hell, i even bought a few DVDs of the movies I really like! But not music because I cant find it, or it costs 30$ for the CD. DVDs are about 18$ now.

I used to be very addicted to downloading. Mostly software. I have an entire CD case full of downloaded software, most of it never installed. I still download a pretty good amount of stuff but I don't spend all my spare time downloading anymore. It interesting to hear that other people do the same thing. We should start a support support group for recovering addicts. :tilted

I was but then I just stoped........ Took me sometime, but then I realized I have seen it all or that I don't need it.. and I have seen all I want to..

I still find myself everynow and then just downloading something and having to stop myself cause I know I don't need the file just need to see the progress bars....

I download because its a fun, relaxing hobby. Out of the 1018 movies I've gotten, I've watched one, and then bought it on DVD afterwards (Equilibrium). Music is worse though, cause I don't listen to any of my 76000 mp3s. O well. It's a good conversation starter, and at least I'll always have it in case I want to use it in the future. Downloading is my anti-drug.

I prefer the term "data packrat"... and yeah, I go thru phases where I download stuff like mad.... especially ebooks, I love having a huge digital library.... when it comes to music, tho, I stick to stuff I like

I am tempted to inventory all my shit that could take a while but it would be intresting to see exactly what i have and now that i have a dvd burner i could cut down my collection by a lot and save space. I can still remember when dled over a gig and delated just like that im honestly happy i dont have dsl anymore its weird saying that but it is true no more 3am fixes lol.

I've got about 350 movies and watched about 100 of them... the rest is just pure collecting. If I really like the movie I usually buy the DVD. With music I only really dl the stuff I like, not to collect... But I feel you on the addiction - I'm trying to make it more and more passive. Not so much managing. But I'm still at about 5GB a week.

P2P Anon is what this thread can be about.

But at least it hasn't destroyed any relationships... except for that shaky one I had with the RIAA, but we were on the rocks anyway with the price fixing thingy...

I developed a radical solution: delete the shit you don't like or will never use. Call me a genius, I don't care..
