The dot icon under my name is black, the mouseover text says my reputation is zero. I have four positive feedback entrys.
Picking a random example. Depri's button is green and his reputation is ten. He has only made seven posts.
Why?

goto your user cp>edit options> make sure your "show rep " box is checked :)

It is on. I tried turning it off. When off my reputation button says "zaphodiv has disabled reputation" instead of "zaphodiv reputation is 0".

Concerning the user reputation system, the design and/or the implementation may be flawed, and perhaps, the selection of options in usage for this particular instance may be less than ideal. There is no doubt, that the mechanics behind the system are less than transparent to the average casual observer. The system may appear to promote user confusion.
While engaged in the exploration of this service, I have only observed four states of user reputation:
*disabled
*0
*10
*100 (Jorge)
Some details pertaining to the user reputation system may be found at the following vbulletin site documentation addresses:
(algorithmic details are vague or incomplete)
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/reputation
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/vboptions_reputation
As always, to enable, disable, or otherwise modify user features available through a service, first properly organize, and then, persistantly contact your administrator in bulk.

Cause someone thinks you suck enough to lose 10 points...leaving you with -10 (just hoover over the icon with your mouse)
I just turn it off as I'd probably be in the negative 100's by now.

Also why did the first reputation not count for anything, since that negative one it dropped me to -1, so essentially the first rep counted for 0...

the only thing I don't like about it..is that it doesn't show you who gave ya the points...so I don't know who to blame...or in some cases...thank.
but thank-you to all the anonymous strangers who have posted positive comments to me so far..a few i figured out...some still remain a mystery. :)

The results of this poll are just as relevant today as they were a year and a half ago.

Definition:
Reputation is the general opinion of the public towards a person, a group of people, or an organization. It is an important factor in many fields, such as business, online communities or social status.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reputation
However, as implemented on ZP it seems to be a popularity contest used to stifle open discussion.
Those who conform are rewarded. Those that don't agree with the in-clique are clobbered and excluded.
Sounds a bit like the recording industry, the in-crowd are artists signed to RIAA labels. They have to conform. If they don't they don't get their record deal renewed etc.
The rebels with the indepedants can say what they feel, act how the want. They may not be mainstream but the are free to express themselves as artists with out restrictions.

lol. I would agree with you about this on most forums that I have been too that have the rep system. Almost invariably the above happens and, eventually, the system is disabled.
But what is there really to conform to here? I think you are taking this place too seriously... tell some jokes, relax. Disagree or present your opinion without becoming combatitive, use rational discourse instead of making sarcastically toned statements when debating national policy... just don't take the place, or the inhabitants, so seriously.
I do agree with you on the vip lounge based on rep points though... bad idea (and this isnt sour grapes, I suspect I'll have the requisite 100 points within a day or two). Its indicative of the elitist attitude shown by the administration here and their utter disregard for the opinions of the members. Poll: Is rep system good? A good majority of the members say "No!" and yet the system is not only kept but also expanded to include exclusive areas! Nuts, says gorphon.

Gorphon I would think that you of all people should be able to appreciate why theres a seperate area.
Che Guevara isnt here, what we have is dipshits like Hornet, so stop stroking the little fucker!
I dont know why or since when this ever has been an "equality" forum, when 5% of us do all the work. Fuck em.

I haven't been back around regularly for very long but I have not seen a reason for hornet to sink to dipshit status. He has just shown an opinion, poorly and emotionally stated. And perhaps there is a problem with translation as well- as english is obviously not his first language. I do think that he needs to drop the sarcasm and what appears to be derision and state his pov logically and dispassionately though. I have told him as much as well. Maybe I will have to read old posts.
you know me, krell. I am going to form my opinion regardless of whomever that means agreeing with. I think that rep system screws up every website I've been on, thats just what I've seen in my personal experience. I think that it further stratifies an already cliquey place.
and thats about it. :icon_sant

Mr. T pities the fools that don't give him positive rep so he can hang out with his VIP fans.
Don't be a sucker. Give T the same love you should be giving your mommas.
