shareaza is messin up AIM connection

Hey guys,
AIM and Shareaza dont work well togeather because, AIM always loses connection when it's on and after I close Shareaza, 5 minutes later the connection with AIM comes back on.
also, AIM reconnects every 20 mins and losses connection 3 or so mins after.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Does anyone know how to fix this?

what internet connection do you have? if it is a campus network they might be doing some screwy stuff (our computer center claims AIM is the reason IRC lags so much..... total BS) It sounds like Shareaza and AIM are using conflicting ports, is it a new version of AIM?

Try with the latest AIM version. I had that issue with Ares and AIM. P2P takes up a lot of the system resources that AIM needs so at times you will not be able to use both.

I have the same problem with ICQ. Using last Shareaza beta and ICQ lite 4.0

backmann, nice to see you back, I haven't seen that Ivan quote in a while.

I've heard of this happening with MSN also. If too much bandwidth (usually upstream) is being used, sometimes messenger clients will disconnect because their protocols require a certain amount of bandwidth to talk to the main servers. Try slightly limiting your upload bandwidth, it may even help your downloads. (by slightly, I mean 2KB's or so below your top speed).

Thanks, phalkon. I still come here daily even though I don't post as much as I used to.

I also guessed it was a bandwith problem, but I didn't take it very seriously. It takes a few seconds to re-connect. I just wanted to point out that the same thing happened to me with ICQ

well, when I did an increidable diy destruction of XP and went back to 2000 I kept all of my files, thus reseted Shareaza, and I found the infamous (to me at least) built in bandwidth meter, with a slider that limits the bandwith, for some reason i never saw it before, so I slid it down a little and there you have it, there was enough bandwith now for AIM!
