I have an adsl pppoe connection....
and recently i had been facing problems of connection timeouts (no bytes are received) at irregular intervals....due to which i have to reconnect.......i think i have solved the problem, it was my zonealarm
i have made the following changes
allow outgoing dns
allow outgoing dhcp
allow broadcast/multicast
allow incoming ping (icmp)
allow other incoming icmp
allow outgoing ping (icmp)
allow other outgoing icmp
allow incoming igmp
allow outgoing igmp
BLOCKED netbios port 135, 137-9,445
i have done this as i read that cable/dsl providers either use icmp or netbios methods to see if connections are alive and if not drop them....
http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,8132541~root=security,1~mode=flat
since these changes, i havent faced dropouts, but i believe that this has rendered my system vulnerable and some of these settings are not needed..
please advice
thanx
